I just did an install with them and they are average-good speakers. I prefer MB Quart speakers. My install guy has MB Quarts in his car, not to mention most sound competition cars use these speakers. On the other side MB Quart cost about twice as much if you buy them for a local shop/store. If you would like more info drop me an email

I've had an Xplod head for 2 years now.... longer than any other CD player I've ever owned. Two of my Alpine head units fried within a year of owning them. Obviously I got my money back... but it's still a hassle. About two weeks ago the screen started freezing up on my Xplod... the graphics would just stop moving... the clock would stop going.... I thought it was toast for sure. All I did to fix it.... removed the face plate and cleaned the contacts.... problem solved.

I have been totally impressed with my Sony.... I would say go for it.... never used xplod speakers though... so I'm not sure how good they are.

I personally wouldn't get a sony head unit because they don't look good enough for me.... :D .... but i would recommend to u Pioneer decks.... because i had one on my old '86 Nissan Maxima which i sold and now i have one on my 240 and the decks are great... i nerver had a problem with the deck.... the thing i like about pioneer is that there deck has the animation screen that just show digits but real words.... check out my deck on my 240 it's sweet.....

here are some pics of my deck

the first two is from my 240 .... the deck has a full animation screen, with a motorized faceplate, and a remote steering wheel.....

and this is a pic of my old deck on my maxima that i sold a while ago....

I've got 2 Sony Xplod 10" subs, really good quality.... Someone hit my brothers truck when it was parked and flipped it, so we did some "scamming" and got 4 new 10" subs! 2 for me, 2 for my brother :D

I have a pioneer head unit also. It functions very well and its probably over 4 years old. Its a pretty basic cd player but it has 44 watts per channel- not too shabby.

I had a Pioneer head unit in my Probe. It was great...basic, but nice. Had a built in EQ and produced good sound.

I have the stock CD player in my 240 and I hate it. It won't play most of my burned CDs and it just has a "cheap" feel to it. I'm going to replace it as soon as I can afford to. I'd have kept my Pioneer out of the PGT when I sold it but I didn't have anything to replace it with.

My fiance used Sony Xplod speakers when he had his '88 RX-7 and they were great. He's currently using MTX speakers in his Talon and they made a HUGE difference from stock. I'll probably go with some of those when I upgrade the speakers in my car...which needs to be done as all four are blown. :(

My bro had Xplod Unit and speakers in his Jeep a few years ago. They had a really good sound, hard to distort, even loud. He put a couple of subs in the back too (non-Sony). It was nice.

i have a sony xplod deck....it's that one that flips down and when it's closed it's got a lcd display, when it's off it's just solid black. i don't know what it's called. not a big stereo buff. i liked it and bought it. but it's got a built in crossover of HPF and LPF and seperate subwoofer volume control. i like it a lot. all i have is a 12" sub in a box and a 150w kenwood amp for the sub. but even will stock speakers it sounds really clean, even at high volume. i turn the treble up, the bass down, the sub mid-way, and set the HPF and LPF at whatever sounds good. and presto sounds nice.:D

how many deck have a full animation screen???..... motorized faceplate???? they are mostly only the high end decks..... if u look up about the deck u'll understand why i think it's sweet... but hey it's only my opinion..... and everyone that goes in my car thinks the deck is the coolest one they have ever seen in a car......:ylsuper

its not that i have had a particularly bad experience w/ sony, im just into high end car audio. Sonys products are pretty much low end products. They get their customers from their name. Your paying for their name not the quality of the product.

I personally like everything that sony makes except for there.... phones and car audio..... because i guess it just the looks.... the new sony are kind of cool with the full picture face but are very pricey...... that's why i like pioneer cause there deck are hecka expensive but stilll looks good... but performance wise i think sony is good just not the looks part....

you don't buy an electronic from a company that tries to get involved in every part of consumer electronics, you buy it from a company that SPECIALIZES in a particular area. Hence, I usually stray away from sony, aiwa, panasonic, etc etc.

Just think of it as a microsoft programmer being paid to program windows as compared to an open source linux programmer.

i personally have had good experiences with sony. i have a sony head unit, sony speakers all around, sony 1000watt amp, and 2 "10 xplod subs. it sounds awesome. for the price i recommend sony but if u want really high quality i would probably spend the extra money and get a brand that specializes in car audio.

Apples and oranges.... if you are talking about a pediatrist giving a complete lower G.I... then yes... you would want a specialist. But SONY has different divisions for different product lines. The guys that design and build the VIOS computers.... don't take lunch breaks, then come back and start building CD players! SONY is just a larger company than most... and their technology and design is just as 'specialized' as any other electronis company. Personally... I'd rather have the reputation of a large name behind my CD player.

thats all true maine. The problem is if you Forget the fact that they are sony and just look at their car audio department as a seperate company they would be a bad audio company. They would be comparable to like pyramid.

True, but your dealing with a company that is involved in cinema, consumer electronics, semiconductors, computers, music, and video games. There's so much they can specialize in.

As for an analogy, why are hondas and toyotas more popular than mitshubishis and hyundais? And would you buy a SONY car if they got involved in the car industry?

And finally, the products are only as good as the passion that the employee puts into designing and engineering the product. Compare microsoft and linux, which OS is buggier?
