Song titles from the CD not recorded

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi, Guys,

As many of you, I TRULY enjoy my Ex35 and have been bragging it to everyone!

-- Question, sometimes when I record CD onto the musicbox, the song titles didn't seem to be recorded. When I later listened to the musicbox, the screen only showed the time of the recording and the length, intead of each song title. That's very frustrating. Anyone can help? THanks!

I have the same issue. I asked the dealer about it. They told me it had to do with the format of the CD that can not read the name to put it on the hard disk.

I installed 100 cd's and only 5 of them don't read the name. Funny too, because the 5 that do not work are the ones that I recorded from online. That has something to do with it.

Hmm, interesting. I had one brand new CD bought on Amazon.com which I couldn't get the titles in musicbox. (Although it showed the titles when I played the CD directly in the car.) Now I'm wondering whether it's just a "ripped" copy instead of an original CD?

Anyway, thanks for the reply!

Very interesting. I have never had a store bought CD not display the titles, only the music from a down load.

Strange thing... maybe someone else can chime in here.

You have to burn the discs in CD-Text format. It's an extension of the Redbook standard. I've burned and recorded 46 discs to my MusicBox so far and all display names and artists. I use iTunes on a Mac and create random playlists for each disc so it's more like radio, but without the commercials.

I do find it irritating that it'll play MP3 CDs just fine, but it won't let you record them to the harddisk.

Thanks David! Actually been lurking for awhile, but saw a chance to help, so I signed up. I've got a friend in Ontario. Small world huh?

Yeah it all depends on the cd. Some older cd's dont show their titles when played on a pc but your pc audio palyer will automatically search songs for them when your online. Obviously your Ex can't do that instead ou have to insert a CF card and plug it to your pc which will look for the titles then plug it back to your Ex.

I thought every EX with MusicBox support had the GraceNote database installed on the harddisk. It might just be those with the navigation system. Mine has both. There's even a GraceNote decal on my dash. GraceNote is an online song identification database, which Infiniti has installed on your drive. When I insert a disc, a message appears at the bottom of the display telling me it's searching GraceNote, so the EX can indeed search for titles. However it's not a perfect technology, even online.

Either way, it does depend on the CD. A standard audio CD, bought or homemade, is called a Redbook disc, and will never have song titles. These are like the older manufactured CDs Bernard refers to, but nothing stops you from creating new discs to this standard. The artist and/or producer can specify an extended format like CD-Text or CD-DA to include song titles, hidden extra tracks, liner notes, etc.. Many popular burning apps support these features as well. iTunes does for sure, and I believe Nero does as well.

Hope that helps!

You can go to Infiniti's website to UPDATE your Gracenote Database with the lastest CD info. Here is a link:

Great information here, I never researched GraceNote software, prior to this. The software update seems interesting. I have never seen Infiniti try to reach out to customers in such a fashion. To support the new technology.

Has anyone here tried this with any success yet?

Actually, this isn't so much a "software patch" as it is a utility.

Also, it doesn't "UPDATE your GraceNote database" as Timmbo suggested.

I previously posted about this a year ago, but just updated it with more info:zer...42011

Looks like I am the last one to hear about something yet again.

I sent an email containing the relevant information to all the service writers at my dealer. Hopefully we can try to resolve this concern instead of having them tell people they either do not know or provide false information.
