Well after 210,000 miles I finally blew a part in my xenon headlamps. My driver's side lamp turns off after about 15 seconds. I figured it was the ballast but it can't hurt to troubleshoot. I removed the grill, pulled forward both headlamp assemblies and swapped lamps. The issue did not follow the lamps, not good news. So then I swapped both ballasts and this time it followed. I knew this was going to be an expensive part but didn't think it would be this expensive. They range anywhere from $388-$600, just for the ballasts! I have yet to find a parts distributor that can get one and none of the junkyards within 20 miles have 01-04 QX4's. This is quickly becoming a pain.

Yeah I feel your pain I had my drivers side ballast go out. I'd look on Ebay I was able to get a replacement for $120 I believe.

Is your ballast square or more of a rectangle?

I was able to negotiate an ebay seller down to $180. After 2 days of searching that's the cheapest I could find.

When your ballast goes bad do your lights stay off or do they go out and will come back on if you turn them off and back on again? My headlights go off while driving, I replaced the switch and still they go out. I'm going to replace the bulbs next because I did get some cheap ones from Ebay.

If it's only happening to one try the trouble shooting method I did. Mine would go off after about 10-15 seconds and stay off. If I turned the switch off and then back on they would come back on momentarily.

Okay so this was really odd. I got the ballast along with some new OEM Sylvania lamps I ordered off of Parts Geek. The issue I was having was that the driver's side lamp would turn on and then back off after about 15 seconds. I installed the new used ballast and the lamp wouldn't even spark. So the ballast was bad and I'm really pissed. I went back and forth a few times between my original ballast and the one I just bought and nothing changed. So I said f-it and installed the new lamps while I had the front end apart. I turned the switch just to see what would happen and voila the driver's side lamp stays on. I really don't get it as I trouble shot it down to the ballast. I'm guessing it's some sort of incompatibility between the ballast and old lamp due to the age of both parts. All I know is that everything is working and now I've got to get a refund on a used part.

QX4 headlamps and corners are one-piece whereas Pathfinder headlamps and corner lamps are two-piece.
