somewhat successful instrument cluster swap please help

i purchased a used cluster from a 94Q (mine is a 95)it has an additional transformer type of thing mounted to back and plugged in in 2 places and grounded.trip odo wouldnot light up - swapped in my bulbs and still no go.put my cluster back in and still wont light trip odo.removed old put in new , then had the great idea to check back light - temp gauge not lighting.

is the bulb for the temp gauge burried in the cluster??

any idea on the trip odo lights

well the back lighting came on this morning.STILL want to know what the transformer thingy is.Ordered the 2 bulbs (radio shack no have) FOR THE TRIP ODO $14.00 PAIR
