Well folks,

It's been real...but I'm moving along. I am starting a new phase of my 'vehicular life' by getting a Kawasaki sport bike and thus will only be lurking here on NICO as I no longer have any plans/nor desire to do anything to my M other than maintenance.

I plan to mod the bike and spend a lot of time on it, God willing I stay safe, so I will no longer be investing as much time or effort into my M.

I will try to get the links for all of the HowTo's I've done fixed so the images show (my web host is currently no longer).

Mods - is there any way one of you could take over what I started with the FAQ thread? Meaning, keep on adding links as people do things? That thread has been a HUGE resource to this sub-community and I would hate to see their work (and mine) go to waste.

See ya'll when I see ya.

I'll still log in from time to time, but it won't be as active as it was and I won't be on enough to catch all of the HowTo's that crop up to keep the FAQ updated enough. That's why I'm hoping some mod takes over those duties.

But yeah, I hate NY lol. Wish I lived in FL so I could ride year round. Not sure about the meet as I don't go to meets.

Thanks!

Although I'm relatively new here, I've been around long enough to state without doubt that you shall be missed. It's members like yourself and others who make this site great by providing reliable, accurate info and help. The mods, and other regular posters, like yourself, have shared your experiences and offered answers and guidance to the rest of us - and you all need to know that we are very grateful for your efforts. The FAQ threads you created are an amazingly brilliant addition to this site and I sincerely thank you for that. I wish you mad-fun with your bike and also that you remain well and safe!
Cheers, mate !

First of all, I liked the song you guys chose. I wasn't around back in the 70s but I happen to know that it was a huge hit back then and I think you all did a good job. I thought the harmony for the most part was tight and spot ON - just one or two places where the pitch was slightly off but the technique was otherwise pretty good. I didn't turn my chair around, but I'm glad someone else did. I think Blake will be a great coach for you guys. Welcome to The Voice!

Bike Mods=

I would suggest - good riding gear, good helmet ($10 helmet= $ 10 head) , good gloves, good boots, and some rain gear.

In terms of mods- suspension mods are by far the biggest bang for the buck.

I have also added a power commander to improve air/fuel mix- this improves the delivery of torque and removes the harshness from the on off throttle application (FI bikes are notorious for running lean and causing surges and flat spots at certain rpm's).

I personally like a loud horns on bikes, so I put in a small air horn that is loud enough so that it can be heard in traffic.

Good luck, ride safe, stay in the proper blocking position and remember that everyone in a car (Cagers) are out to kill you.

Nah, it's a Ninja 300. It's my first ever bike, never ridden anything two wheels before. Plus I plan to commute with it so a liter bike or 600 is pretty pointless especially in traffic.

300!? WTH. I understand you wanting to start a bit lower but you will very quickly learn that the 300 has no power. Add a passenger and you'll want to kick them off real quick. What about once you start riding with other bikers? IMO I would return it and say not happy with the power and jump to a GSXR600 or 750.

OK first of all, Ilya's nicked Freddie's custom fenders for the engine cover! Sorry! that was the TopGear side of my brain talking, LOL
That looks brilliant! It looks agressive, and the colour scheme is great - the wheels look awsome too! I hope you have lots of fun with it!

Sorry guys, completely disagree with you. This thing is so light and so nimble, it's a blast. And it's about as fast (maybe a hair faster) than my M.

Maybe some day, but the 300 is a blast, is faster than just about any car (unless it's a V8) with a good rider, and gets 70mpgs. Win, win, win.

That's awesome man....I remember my first bike and don't worry about what anyone says....stay on the bike you are comfortable with. 300cc's will be plenty fine for now, one day you'll probably step up a few cc's but that's probably if/when you're ready....Just have fun and stay safe because there are a lot of careless drivers out there.....You picked a good bike though, I too own a Kawasaki...had a Suzuki and a Yamaha...like the Kawi better...Here a pic of mine...it's a few more cc's, LOL, but a bike is a bike....Be safe brother.

Dang,

I can't believe you are leaving. I found your posts interesting and informative. I love your new bike. I used to own a KZ 900 which was one of the original speed machines. As I got older I went the Harley route. I still have a Harley and my M, but my reflexes as slowing down. That speed demon you bought can get you in trouble real fast. I just hope as a novice rider you take some type of safety course. I am 60 and learned a lot about safe riding just by experience. Please don't get in over your head with the new ride. All the safety gear in the world is not going to do anything if you can't control that monster and drive safe. My best wishes to you and your new ride.

Please hang around the NICO site. Many of us are 2 wheel drivers too and still want to hear from you.

Thanks. And nice bike.

Yeah, this 300 sounds small, but it really has some kick to it. It's a FI model which probably helps. It's not as fast as a 600, but like I said, it will walk my M with a good rider who can shift quick. It's faster than the majority of cars around.

I'm very happy with my purchase.

Thanks guys.

I am taking my MSF course (to get my license waiver) on August 1st and 2nd. But, I can't wait that long to ride with the bike sitting in my driveway so I'm getting out there right now but being super cautious.

As for NICO, I'll be around, just not as much. Not enough to be able to maintain the FAQ thread for you guys though. Wish I could transfer ownership to someone who was willing to do that for ya'll.

Do us all a favor. Take the safety course. But remember one thing. Regardless of all the safety equipment you can buy the biggest and best safety device you have is your BRAIN and your senses. I cannot state that stronger!! Enjoy the bike. They are an awesome amount of fun. I hope the safety course is good. I never took one. I learned the hard way by dumping mine a few times in my day. I would love to hear what they teach you. If I can add or help in anyway let me know. This may be a NICO site, but I don't think anything you do on the bike is not relevant to what us 4 wheel guys need to know. What's the difference? You are smart to take that machine out and drive it cautiously and get used to it.

Hope to see you back on NICO soon.

Size, size. size. Its not the number of cc's you have but what can you do with them. My neighbor has a Hayabuska (sp?). He let me take it out for a little drive. By all things that are Holy or whatever you believe in, I am pretty sure I crapped my pants before I even got to 3rd gear. Nice stinkin ride home and to the bathroom. It was a rush!!!!

Exactly. IMO, bigger bike is a waste.

This thing pushes me back in high RPM twists of the throttle. That's all I need. I WANT to be able to open it all the way and not worry about popping a wheelie.

Too each their own I guess. Maybe some day I'll get a bigger bike, but for the time being and for the foreseeable future (couple years), I think I'll be more than happy beating the crap out of this little Ninja.

I'm not saying bye cause your still keeping your M haha. I know you will still be active (Check once a day versus checking 6 times a day haha). Because of you, I decided to get my windshield tint and percentage. Appreciate it. Someone will come up with some mod that you will do to your M sooner or later....

Sorry, I meant to say anything you learn about safe driving on the bike IS RELEVENT to driving a car. Traction, wet roads, crossing RR tracks, braking, to name a few. Most of all understanding your limits and the machines limits. You are wise to start out with a small cc machine and get used to it before looking at a bigger one.
