Ok, I realize the different SR turbos you can bolt up to the CA without hassle but are the lines just as easily matched?

Also, does anyone's CA run like poop until it gets warmed up? Mine stutters like crazy until its warm, then no prob.

Third, I also see about the chipped ECUs and I think this is where I wanna start but I want some advice from people who have gone this route. I have read about the speed limiter being removed but this would be for an S13 so what about my S14 speed sensor? Also with a chip, where would that put me as far as power increase using a SR T25/CA T25 and stock 370s?

Is there anything I can do to my turbo that is stock just to get a couple extra pounds out of it?

How will the CA respond to NOS? I have a kit that I used as a dry shot and ruined a MAF so never used it again... Luckily I had warranty because an 03 OEM part was hella expensive.

I guess that's all I can think of for now...Sorry to just rant out some questions but i'm anxious to learn and couldnt find these answers anywhere else..

Could you fit any more questions into one post ??? :-)

Same center housing (CHRA), same lines. The oil drain might need the bolt holes elongated, if it's a later model roller bearing CHRA.

Bad cold idle is performance is probably spark plugs and misaligned Throttle position sensor. Could also be blocked cold idle air bypass valve.

Speed sensor is converted in the dash. The sender in the gearbox sends a signal to the dash, which converts it, and sends it to the ECU. The speed and boost limiter removal mods are done by re-chipping the ECU.

You could expect up to 130-150kW at the wheels with everything standard, with boost changes, front mount intercooler, 3 inch exhaust and T28 turbo. Will also need remap, so you may as well get 440cc GTR or 550cc RX7 injectors and Z32 or RB20 AFM.

Get a $20-50 bleed valve. Raise it to 10-12psi depending on the turbo condition, and octane of your local fuel. IF you find it cutting out, you'll need to invest in a ECU remap chip.

NOS is fine, if you map more fuel in. A wet system is better, but I'd recommend going aftermarket ECU before trying NOS.

I just figure ask as many questions as I can to not make a bunch of threads, just a main one. Thank you also for your input because now I have a better understanding of the situation.. I don't understand the power measurements because I'm used to seeing HP and TQ though.

Ok everything you posted in response is pretty much clear to me except for now a couple more questions..

Where would I get the CA ECU chipped? And would I be better off doing it after another turbo or with what I have now?

About 200hp at the wheels.

If you plan to 'Chip' your ECU, it is generally best that you plan your mods before you get your chip. The ECU can 'adjust a little, but it's best to get the ECU modded so that it cloely suits your mods.

As an example, a lot of people run the S15 turbo, Z32 AFM, 440cc injectors, raised boost, boost cut & speed cut removed. But consult with someone who sells ECU chips. Generally they either expect you already have your ECU 'socketed', which is a risky operation left to soldering experts. Or they can do ECU mods on exchange basis. You can then upgrade with just a new chip from then on.

If you go after market ECU, it'll cost more, but you won't be tied into a 'chip' modifying dude.

Wow, ok, well thanks for your patience I really mean that.

I guess what I need to do is start by finding a solid, in good shape as possible SR turbo either S14 or S15 and build around that.. I'm at such a tricky place becuase I really wanna use some money for paint, wheels and suspension but that won't leave too much for power. But then again, I wouldn't mind lookin ugly if the car were reasonably quicker. Basically I don't need to be FAST, I just wanna be quick, and maybe make a couple V-8s think twice. I can already hold my own with a new GT without looking stupid and a friend just bought an EVO and I was surprised even he didnt leave me as fast as I figured. I kinda sensed dissapointment when he said, "that 240 is kinda quick on the highway..."

I guess ~260-270 would be cool at the wheels... I will have to talk seriously when I have money with my resident tech Damesta..

quick noob question that i prolly no the answer to -- does it mean you make an opening of the chip --- is my guess but what is

"socketed ecu" ?

The chips are just EEPROMs. Black rectangular things with loads of little metal legs. The factory ones are soldered onto the board inside the ECU box.

You need to remove (desolder) the factory chip and replace it with an EEPROM socket. This way it's possible to then remove the eeprom and replace it with another that is specially 'reprogrammed' with the modified program to suit your car modifications. The removal of a socketed EEPROM is fairly easily done by anyone, and as you might be talking to people maybe on the other side of the world, it's good if they only need to send you a chip in an envelope, instead of you shipping the ECU there and back, everytime you get new mods.

EPROM* for ca18det ecu at least

I'm still waiting for some new chips in the mail. And I just acquired a really nice chip programer from work. Also my friend solders for a living.

I'm still thinking if it's worth the trouble. But I can socket and chip an ECU no problem. Programing the chip for different injectors or MAF is no problem but other than that I will have to use someone else's image for other tuning things.

Is anyone interested in having this done to their ECU?

I would like to get info about this... I'm looking to upgrade very soon and will like to know if ECU modding is right for me.
