I'm wondering if something is wrong with my new M35x.

Coming off the line, I can either fly or sputter. If I want a smooth graceful acceleration to speed - forget it. Apply a little pressure to the accelerator keeps the revs low, but the torque is almost non-existent. Add a little more pressure and all of a sudden revs sky rocket, torque wildly increases and I'm checking for cops.

I've tried using the manual shift - but the response time on that is too slow to be useful.

Does anyone know where I can get a powerband chart for the M35 engine? Maybe if I train myself to hit a certain rev, I'll get the power I'm looking for.

Max power is at 6500RPM I believe.

I found that by "stepping on it" the ooooomph is delayed. Trying to pass someone, I have to wait for the REV to get high before I make my pass.

It sounds like you're just getting used to the car. The throttle is very responsive and doesn't have a lot of travel so you get a lot of juice from a very small movement of your foot. The transmission also kills engine power for about 1/2 a second during a kickdown which can be frustrating when you want to speed up in a hurry.

After you get used to the throttle, the car should be pretty easy to drive smoothly. You do still need to plan ahead a little because of the kickdown delay but you can always shift manually to anticipate the need to accelerate.

The engine is best above 3500 and under 6500. Keep it in that sweet spot and you should have no trouble getting out of just about anyone's way...

I can relate to what you're saying but I don't see a problem with the power delivery. I think for a 4000lb car, it delivers quite well and the VQ in rear wheel is like a dream come true. Much different than it was in my '04 Maxima. What a nightmare that car was with front wheel drive.

Give it some time and you will learn to appreciate the luxury more and more and you won't find yourself even worrying about pulling the power out of the pedal unless you really need it.
