OK, so I was driving over to my gf's house after work and on the way there my car started acting weird. It almost seemed as I was in too high of a gear for the speed I was going but that wasn't the case. So, I downshifted anyways... it was ok for a few hundred feet and then I started to get nothing when i was hitting the gas pedal. No acceleration, nothing, and then it just died. Tried to start it again and nothing... It cranks and almost wants to start but doesn't... (Fuel pump was just replaced maybe 4-5mo. ago) Any ideas?

What was your engine temp gauge reading? sounds like when I blew the head gasket on my turbo 240 a few weeks ago... unfortunately I didn't have a working gauge, so I am now saving for a new head as well.. FML...

I had the same problem twice, car just died on me.

First one was alternator took a crap.

Second was the fuel pump, but just the fuel pump fuse.

Check fuel filter, fuel pressure, and for spark. Timing chain noise, you may want to put the motor to top dead center and check the cams (incase it jumped a tooth)

Mine was doing this and it was the MAF. Try unhooking it and see if it will run in safe mode (won't go over like 2-3k RPM. Also I tried sending you a PM NIck and you do not have them enabled. email is [email protected]

+1 on the fuel pump fuse.

I had this Exact same thing happen to me about a month ago. I had a bad battery terminal and it suddenly decided to start blowing fuel pump fuses every 50 miles. (the red connector on the + battery terminal with two plugs in it is for fuel pump etc) Everytime the fuse blows this same thing will happen. Slow fuel preassure loss till finally thier is none and car dies/wont restart. New battery and new terminals (factory ones suck nuts) solved the fuse blowing problem for me.

Can you hear your fuel pump turn on when you put the key to 'ON'? (Don't start it though.)

I once blew my fuel pump fuse on the freeway a week after I went KA-T, scared the heck outta me.
It acted a bit weird and died like you describe.

Im thinking it might be the fuel pump fuse... where is that located? Under the hood or in the kick panel? Is it one where you can tell its blown or is it a big guy?

wait.... wat? one more time... after i fill up gas can... then wat?

EDIT** OK, so I checked the fuel pump fuse (15amp) and it was fine. I also hear the fuel pumo hum before start up so I know it's working. I also have a 1/4 tank of gas ;)

Well I was getting some nasty timing chain noise so I decided to inspect that route... took off the valve cover, dizzy, and front timing chain cover... I didn't like what I saw... Upper tensioner was bad, broke my upper and lower guides. The guides were in pieces when I looked in there...

Anyway... put the motor to TDC and it showed that the timing was off slightly... must've jumped a tooth :(

Oh well... Timing Kit? or New Motor?

dam. People rebuild KA's and sell them for $250 to $500 depending on parts and work done.

You should do it yourself, it'll be a learning experience. My car doesn't like to be touched by other mechanics, only me....o yeahhh

Most KA's around me are $300-500 and not rebuilt, although these engine's can easily go to 200k without a rebuild if not abused so most of them are good.

Dude your engine is fine... if you didn't get valve interference then nothing is damaged. And I know from experience you have to be off atleast two teeth to get interference.. don't ask. It's a HORRIBLE sound too. You would know.

You just need to fix the tensioner and retime it. Problem solved.

have you ever been to a 1/4 tank? maybe 1/4 on the gauge is 0 in tha tank. also when the pump was replaced dirt could have goten into the tank cloging lines pickup screen filters ect.
