Hey everyone!! I'm new to the site and I'm having some problems with my 2005 qx56. It started with the smell of rotten eggs coming out of the air vents today. When I opened the hood, the smell was coming from the battery. So I went to crank it and it had a bad hesitation but it did crank after a few seconds. I put it in drive and when I pressed the gas it did nothing. When in reverse it backed up but nothing in drive or any other gear. I'm thinking the battery is being overcharged by the alternator but I don't know. If anyone has any idea, please help!! Thanks!!

If you are not confident about putting an ammeter on the altenator to check voltage output, you should take it to an auto electrician.
They will be able to check this for you. It may be that the battery is to blame, and not the altenator.

Typically, a rotten egg smell indicates that your exhaust may have a leak and/or that the catalytic converter is no good.
Do you have a check engine warning light on the dash?

The check engine light isn't on. Put a new battery in last night and it seems to be fine right now. I am getting the alternator checked right now. Fingers crossed it was just the battery. And the bad smell is gone!!

The guy said everything passed so hopefully it was just the battery and nothing else.

Cheap easy fixes are always the best. Glad to hear everything is running ok now.
