ok while looking threw some archived threads about base timing, and trying to stabilize my idle. I saw some post about ppl commenting on whether your base timing should be 15deg or 10deg

Maybe Im waisting my time and someone already posted this, in which case IM sorry for waisting ur time. But depending on what ecu ur using, the base timing should be different. If for instance you have a #98 ecu like me. Which at the neutral idle timing should be at 10deg (taken from the values in the bin). I used to run this at 15. meaning I had my timing advanced 4deg.

If u look at the euro ecu bins, the neutral timing advance is 15deg. according to a euro tune and a euro stock bin that I have.

I just dont want ppl to automatically set the timing to 15deg when the maps in the ecu are adjusted to 10, or vise versa. maybe some other ppl with stock bin files from different ca18det ecus can list what the neutral idle ignition advance should be.

Base timing is set at 15 degrees regardless of what ecu you have. If there are any adjustments that need to be made, that's tasked for the eccs system being used. Again, all CA DOHC motors' stock timing is 15 degrees and it was the way it was intended to be from factory. Retard the timing to 10 degress and you will have high egts and a lazy engine that's already low on low rpm torque and power.

That's the point that he's making. Most of the FSM's that we're all working off of are EDM FSM, and would be set up for 15°advance. We don't really have a JDM FSM to be able to read, and he's thinking that the JDM ECU's are meant to have the base timing set at 10°advance.

ive got both an aussie fsm and a uk fsm and they both say 15 degrees. i am just going to assume that the aussie one refers to the jap. engine.

If your bin is at 10*, you want to sync that up with mechincal timing.

Just make the ECU is locked at that degree and not adding timing.....

thats what Im saying. the bin for my #98 ecu has values of 26, which for ca18:26-16=10deg

the UK tune that I had gotten from Norris designs had 31 meaning:31-16=15deg. Also the stock UK bin (I dont know what # ecu) is also 31.

This is for base timing. Once u put the car in gear, it switches to the timing map.

My clip came from Jap, and the motor came with the timing set @ 15 degrees

I'm with nunook on this one. If the JDM engine is also suposed to have 15deg advance at idle, the correction factor for the ignition should be 11 and not 16.

BTW I have read somewhere else that JDM engines should be setup at 10det.

You are right. It is just base timing. The other people are just passing on info is wrong or see it different.
