something i do not understand

I was clicking around on the forum website and clicked on marketplace. i know versa.org is a cool place for drivers to exchange pointers and everything but why are forums always asking people to pay for decals and caps to advertise for the forum? I am with the mazdaspeed 6 forum and they are doing the same. Usually u pay people to advertise something for you not the other way around. somebody please tell me y this is happening.

Unfortunately, "paid advertising" brings in a ton less then people think. If you are lucky - you make a few bucks. It costs money to run this (and other forums). If you don't have a sponsor - the owner's pay themselves. So - selling some decals helps defray the cost of keeping this forum running and providing a very useful service to everyone.

Think of it more as a donation to the website and because of your donation you are recieved a gift. Also you are showing your support to the website.

I hate to tell you that fabulous Graphix is not here to make money when it comes to the portal page decals i.e. NissanVersa.Org decals. By the time he is done making a pair for someone and ships them, for $5, he is actually losing money, but making a courteous contribution to us by allowing us to have them for cheap. I asked a places around here for the same decal, and all wanted $10-$20 for it for a pair. Fabulous Graphix is great, and next time I need some vinyl for my car, I am gonna give him a call.

second. I paid $5 EACH for my kill marks, and they definitely didn't take the effort that the versa.org decals took...

(for those of us bad with math, I'll spell it out...)That was $10 total, and there was no shipping. I provided an exact template, they scanned it, cleaned it, and ran it through a giant machine that just cut it out. Then they removed the void space and covered it with an application backing. whoop-de-friggin-do.

I have a question for you. Do you own a shirt (or cap) with the Nike symbol on it? Did you buy that shirt or did Nike pay you to advertise their product? Is it a big surprise that someone is selling Versa caps in a Versa forum or a Mazda cap in a Mazda forum? You sell a product where there is interest for that product. People in a Versa forum have already indicated their interest in Versa related products. It certainly doesn't seem difficult to understand to me.

Believe me, we would love to be able to hand out free NICO swag to everyone who wants it, but it costs money to have the stuff made, so we aren't able to do that.

Remember, NICO is a lot more than just a web forum. We have a lot of members who are proud to be a part of our close community, and we like to fly our colors, especially when we get together.

Ultimately, it comes down to brand loyalty. Just as mentioned above, people will buy clothing because of a logo or a brand, simply to show off the fact that they own it. Like MinisterofDOOM said, people are proud to be members of this forum and want to show it off, but the site can't simply give the materials away for free because they cost money to produce. Here in inland so cal, there is a huge fad with SRH (which oddly enough means "Stoners Wreaking Havoc"... poor spelling on their part) which is nothing more than a low budget record label that promotes drug use in all of their music. However, every other lifted pickup truck has an SRH logo on the back window, and I've even seen people with the logo tatooed onto their bodies! Now that's just plain nuts.
