A creature must have died in the car, probably in the ventilation system. I'm guessing the ventilation system, because the odor returns when the car is started afteran overnight shut down, and ventilation fan is started........ Where/how could a creature get into the sys? Where should I start looking? If a mouse/chipmonk did get into cabin could it get back up the vent sys with grilles and louvers blocking 'em (However, last Summer we found acorns, cracked and whole/ in the door map pockets.

Does the smell go away after a bit? Depending on your climate you can get mold in the system which will stale/stink you out each time you start driving the car after an overnight sit.

A decomposing animal would simply cause the whole vehicle to stink regardless of the fan or A/C-heat being on or not.

:lolling: Recently, after months of stink, we've noticed the smell is diminishing. Now that we're in a warm climate for the Winter, the heat may have dried out the "creature", we'll see ..... 25 years ago, chipmunks gained access to the "Prelude's" ventilation sys where they stored a few acorns, it took weeks for the fan to grind 'em up.

lol

Have you at least looked at the microfilter to see if that's the area with a problem?
