someone tried to steal my car yesterday

but it wasn't the nissan . they punched in the lock and started to tear apart the column, but didn't get too far. i have an audiovox alarm (about six years old), that i guess they couldn't get around. so the symtoms are:- marker lights were on when i came outside (but the switch wasn't turned on), i had to turn on the switch and then back off (then the lights went off)- starts for just a second, then diesi imagine i will have to either speak with audiovox or a dealer. the car no longer had the factory radio, but i don't think it had any factory theft system (non RDS) if anyone knows what that is (factory option from GM)almost forgot, the car is a 2001 chevy cavalier.does anyone have any ideas of what i could do?any help is much appreciated, car is stuck downtown!

That car has the passlock II system that could be causing the engine to die. It's the resister built into the ignition switch. The thieves may have broken or cut this wire from the ignition. If they did it wouldn't even start with your key. You'll need to trace the wires from the ignition switch. You are looking for a small orange/black and a small yellow wire that should be together with a red/white wire. See if this wire is disconnected or cut somewhere. Also, make sure it still goes in to your ignition switch. Here is a link to some Passlock II system on my web site

This is the first place I'd look. I doubt the Audiovox alarm had anything wired that would shut off the engine. Nearly all alarms only have starter disable so if it's cranking then I doubt it's the Audiovox.
