i have a 1990 Q45 Transmission is giving me problems. The other day im driving down the highway and all of a sudden the RPM's go all the way up and doesnt shift no more. Then car slows down and thats it. So i can turn on the car and drive a certain distance but then the gears go out and cant drive are these the first steps of transmission failure if so how much is the fix thanks a lot.

Are you getting a " Transmission Malfunction" on Dash Diagnostic Information Display?

Follow the detailed proceedure [in FSM] to have the display read out the code! It will display 14 different individual codes, some times multiple codes.

Best to take it to a dealer just for diagnosis! Because it could be a bad corroded connection. Then find a JDM [Japanese junkyard shipped to US] transmission down in El Monte. Avoid domestic junkyards as the mileage/abuse will be higher.

Takes 5-6 hours real time to swap carefully.

Hello,

Am a newbie. Please furnish name, address, phone and email for the JDM place in El Monte where rebuilt transmissions might be available for purchase?

Thanks

Hi! Did you ever get your problem resolved? I tried locating an new/used transmission someplace in Ontario, CA., and am still looking into dealing with this problem I also got code readings from doing a self-diagnostic. Have been told that it is possibly solenoids and that would be cheaper than having to deal with putting in a new transmission. What is the status of your situation? Best, Robert B. Yoshioka.
