someone please help.. i have no idea what the prob is

i was on the freeway and my car pretty much started driving itself, and when i put in neutral the car would rev up to 5000 or 6000 rpm without mew touching the gas..

any suggestions cuz im stumped....

First off don't quote me, with that said
Try and remember exactly how the car was running before it started what where the conditions ? where you driving it hard ?
there could multiple reason why your engine decided to surge sticking throttle cable, intake air leaks, faulty fuel pump & or injectors, defective Ecu, malfunctioning egr, bad o2 sensor ect.
wish I could be more helpful hope this little bit helps.

Did you have the cruise on? If so then something on the transmission sensors isn't telling the cruise that it went out of gear.

If no cruise then the throttle cable was hung on something.
