ok i've posted this a couple times and have got no definate answer... i have a 1990 hatch with jdm rear subframe and tein ha's what is the widest tire i can run?? it is for drag application, and i'm looking ofr maybe a 16 or 15 by 8-8.5, so far i a have stock 2002 spec v rims and tires for rolling the ar aeound, but ever since i started the build this tire and wheel thing has perplexed me... i don't care about gearing or any of that crap, and i don't want to run slicks or et. streets on the street, so bascially there MUST be a def answer for this, what is the widest rim/tire combo in 15or 16" for my car...PLEASE HELP thanks

first off you need to decide what TIRE size you want b/c an 8.5in rim may be unnessecary and additional weight. Which im sure you dont b/c your lookin for quick et's. A 7.5 in rim can fit 235's on it w/ no prob and possible 245 tires.

While there is no definite answer since there are too many conditions(wheel offset, overall tire width, diameter, etc), the best thing to do is to measure the clearances around what you have now. Using these clearances, and the dimensions for the wheels you are running, you can calculate how much more wheel you can put in. Then you can get an idea of the tire size you can use. Keep in mind the actual dimensions of a tire can vary even if it lists the same tire size. Even something as simple as a wheel protector bead can cause clearance problems.

oh ok 275 tires would not fit on 7.5in wide rims you will prolly have to go w/ the 8.5in wide

I gave you as definite an asnwer as you can get last time you posted this.

if you wnat a drag car, you better just set in, tub the rear end, and toss out tje TEIN suspension you have. go get the HKS drag rear setup.

there is no definite answer, because your being quite illogical in your question, not specifying things wlel, and having conflicting items. you want a 15" or 16" wehel, which, to be wide needs to be a 16x9 and run a slick for drag purposes, but then you want to run street tires?

then you run tino another problem, a 245-45-16 will be about the widest tire you can get in a 16" wheel for your car, on a 8" wide 16" wheel. if you want a wider street tire, you can move up to 17 or 18" and run a 255-35-18, a 245-40-17, and, in a 17x9 a 275-35-17 or the like.

all in all, your going to ahve to decide if you really want tod rag race the car. if so, just get a set of 15x9 drag wheels with some goodyear gumballs and set them aside when you dont run on the strip. otherwise, refer to my comments above. also, I am in a very pissy mood right now, dont take it personal.-chet
