Maybe you should get use to the car before you crash it. Maybe even a few suspension mods to make it more stable. You should start watching Initial D to learn how to drive like a true master of the road.

I'm planning on trying autocross. You can learn performance driving skills in a safe environment (nothing to run into but plastic pylons) and lower speeds that way. From what I've read, the only thing you'll need to get a stock 240 in autocross is a helmet.

If you just drift or pull donuts in a parking lot you run the risk of spinning into a curb (goodbye suspension), or worse, a light standard (goodbye car) or person (possible jailtime).

im just learning too. i started out with goin to a parking lot late at night. if you a find a place like a food store that closes at night is good practice. there they have poles you could go around, make sure not too many poles because just when you think your that nice boom there it goes. i still practice in places like that but now i go to the track on wednesdays which is drift day in jersey. im doing good for a starter so a parking lot can take you a long way. 360 are ridiculously easy kinda like burning out but just turn your steering wheel and that rw whill @ss out like nothin.

When most of us started, you had to learn on public roads, or parking lots if you knew of a place. Now there are many events, and I advise completely against any form of public drifting. The drift bible is decent, but nothing comapares to seat time... learn your car well, and you'll KNOW what is required to get it sliding

You'll soon learn that you won't have any fun drifting with an open differential. Get a Limited Slip Differential (LSD) or forget about controlling/initiating drifts being easy. Too bad the 2-way LSD's are like $700.

Nothing but pylons and the occasional corner worker.

Think of the old and reposted 50 million times Corvette autocross/golf video on ebaumsworld.com.

daily drive your car, auto-x, auto-x in the rain, do some donuts, do donuts in the rain, drive with sticky tires, drive with a harness. all of those will give you a different experience, making you pretty well-rounded.

deff get to know the feelings and resonses your car gives you as you drive it, it should become "an extension of yourself"

look around for tracks or a local SCCA in your area, go to Auto-X's their great... try and get time on a skidpad or open track days. skidpads are GREAT, you learn 3X's faster, b/c you can focus on your driving... not on lightpoles... people... police... or curbs...

it all takes time, the drift bible is a must to watch, he really shows you great techniques to practice. but remember motorsports are expensive, and you WILL make mistakes, we all do... have fun with it and know your limitations

meh, parking lots are fine after you get into an accident the car is done. practicing a tank in a parking lot is not ok though

all you really have to learn is how to weight shift, when to gas/brake turn and youre set. sounds easy? lol

If you haven't had your car long, I would get comfortable and use to the car period before trying any tricks. Last thing you need is crashing it into something and be the end of it.

You control the car on how you drive. If you don't drive like a maniac and try to cut people off, you won't lose control of it. Don't speed when raining because your asking for problems.

I would suggest and drifting practice in and open parking lot with no obstacles in your way. Or if you know anyone with a big open grassy field would do you fine.

Yes, but no deer, traffic, trees, or children. I haven't tried it yet (I live on an Island, and I have no idea if there's even autocross events here).

I have no idea what this refers to (I'm a newbie too). I assume someone hit a corner worker.

i dunno if anyone has mentioned it yet, cause im too lazy to read this pointless thread... 1st, you touch that e-brake to slide, someone oughta slap you. 2nd is it a auto/manual. vlsd or open... because most likely your *** bought a auto open diff 240... in which case, you dont drift you do 1 tire fires WHEN ITS WET. good luck, but dont ask how to drive your car, you have a license, so get out there and drive it

the corvette auto-x video is of a blue corvette C5 losing control on the course and plawing through a crowd of spectators, and i mean a CROWD, he must hit 10 people, its not really funny though i guess.
