And why it isn't fuse protected is beyond me
If they crease anything they'll be replacing it lol.

And yes, I agree. Never had this happen on any car I've owned.

To replace the headliner they have to remove the rear window. And that's a huge mess as well. Lol so tell them to put there best guy on it

Service assured me their tech will take extra care, but they will likely have the car back to me in a few more days so I'll continue to rock the Q70 for now.

I'll attempt LED again when I get the car back. If I screw it up twice, I'm just going to stop lol. Or maybe I should just unplug the battery first and do all the bulbs and then turn the battery back on, that way none of the car has power while I'm removing/putting bulbs back in.

This is the correct way to do any electrical work on cars. I am however guilty of skipping this step most of the time. :slap: Most cars have many fuses however that prevent major issues unlike our M's here. :tisk:

Well yeah, hah. Most of the time you're dealing with things that don't get power until the button is hit at least once (like when you do radio work, or your turn signal install depending on what wire you used for 12v which should be switched power)...the lights though are obviously always on or getting juice when the car is off or on.

I still can't believe installing LEDs caused this given how often all the people here made/make this change without any issues...just seems so odd lol

Getting the car back today. They couldn't finish it as they found out that the wiring harness is on manufacturer back order for 4-6 weeks.

When I was upgrading the dome lights in my 07 M, I used a very thin screwdriver to help maneuver the bulbs. One side went fine, but while removing the driver bulb, I hear a very faint 'pop' and the lights went out everywhere, LOL. I had no dash lights, no outside mirrors, no electric seats, etc, To make it worse, I had the driver seat completely back and reclined to allow me access easily to the dome. I had to drive it to the dealer that way, LOL !! They charged me about $100 to replace three fuses on the driver kick panel. Took them maybe 20 minutes. They showed me which ones went pop and where they were located. I guess they figured they were dealing with someone who should not be around wiring or electronics and they were trying to save me another trip later on for the same error.

Just bought a new Q704.6 AWD. Reminds me of my M45 but with more HP, more electronic stuff and just more of everything. So far so good. If this holds together as good as my M45 (1 time to the dealer) I will be very, very happy.

I scanned through all the posts and didn't see any big deal issues. Anyone have a big deal issue? On the M we had many posts on oil consumption and synthetic vs. regular oil. Wonder if this is still an issue. What's everyone using in their Q?

I use synthetic in my M56...but I change it so often I don't worry about consumption (I do it every 5kmi like clock work).

But...

They have a 4.6 now? I thought they only made a 3.7 and a 5.6...had no idea there was a 4.6.

I'm curious... Which wiring harness was it?

My footwell bulbs were stuck too. After reading this thread, I became very cautious about removing them. I slipped a rubber hose over the bulb, and squeezed it with needle-nosed pliers. Worked perfectly. No breakage.

The local store didn't have blue LEDs. So my new footwell bulbs are blue incandescent 194B lamps, which are not very bluish when lit. More like dim white. Disappointing. So I'm hoping the NEXT set of LED bulbs emit more bluish light.

I also bought clear footwell lenses (P/N 26421-4P000) from oeinfinitiparts ($4 each):

New harness has arrived and I dropped the car off today to get it finished up. Should have it back by the end of the week. Got a 2015 Q50a as a loaner this time.

Had the same issue happen to me when I was replacing my bulbs for LED's, only my issue was with the map lights, car was still under manufacturer's warranty and they had to replace the harness and BCM, a $2500 job according to the service advisor at my stealership. Now one thing I highly recommend doing after you get the car back is opening the rear doors and making sure all your dome lights and courtesy lights turn on. I failed to do this at the time and now when I open the rear doors only the courtesy lights turn on on my car.

I'll be checking that for sure before I touch the car again. When I do the install this second time, I'm going to unplug the battery. I'll then install all bulbs BUT the footwell bulbs...and test. If all is well, I MAY do the footwell bulbs as well or I might just leave them out and eventually wire up an LED strip or something.

This happened on my Q45 and it totally zapped the BCM. Automatic headlights, map lights etc were all screwed up. Now it has happened again on my M56 and I'm not sure how. I had the door button pushed in while inserting the bulb - which basically cuts power to the footwell while I was putting in a new bulb. The good thing is that nothing other than footwell lights appear to be affected. Map lights and door lights are all working, so it's actually something I can live with. I'll do some tracing of the wiring over the weekend to see if the wire in the harness got burnt. If it's the BCM, I'll just live with it. This is the worst design of anything I've ever seen on a car.

Yeah my Y50 was not so touchy. I'll likely not bother with the footwells...that seems to be the common denominator for all of us and my lights were fine after doing of the footwells but blew when I did the other.

Okay, I got the car back. All is well.

From what I was told (the paperwork I was given doesn't have the full breakdown), the following ended up being the issue:

- BCM was replaced
- Main dash harness was replaced
- A 'sub' harness was replaced
- They found one of the connectors to the CANBUS controller was melted/fried

All in all, if I didn't have warranty, this would have cost me $5,442. #$%*@*#$(@#$*@#$*(#$(*@#(@#$ INSANE!

I'm going to leave the footwells alone permanently and just do the other interior lights (which I had no issues with last time).

Wow that is crazy! I did my footwells with no problem, I will be sure to take your advice and not touch them again.

Infiniti dropped the ball here. Something, somewhere, isn't protected by a fuse properly. There is NO reason why this should happen. If you short the terminals, worst case is it pops a fuse somewhere. That's it. But noooooo. Some engineer done f'ed up, IMO.

Ilyakol, what systems were affected by the fried components? As of right now I see that my personal lights (lights overhead when the door opens) and the footwell lights do not work. The map lights work when you turn them on manually. This is a lot different than my 2002 Q45 where the map lights went haywire and would stay on, the automatic headlights didn't work, and door lights stopped working.

I'm out of warranty now so I guess I'll live with the issue.

Infiniti probably knows about this problem and that's why they put the blacked out lens on the footwell lights.

For me it was only the following:

Overhead lights (dome in front and passenger ones on each side in the rear), footwell lights, door lights (the ones in the doors) that didn't turn on. The overhead ones would turn on if I manually pushed the button.

That would be something...but no, I have the covers off right now and the stock bulbs are too bright.

Whoa! Glad it got sorted under warranty. Make sure you disconnect your battery before going in and changing any bulbs this time. :ohno:

I forget, are these bulbs single polarity (meaning only work one way)? Or if I install them wrong and then connect the battery I run the risk of something happening again?

I think it depends on the bulb. I have never had to reverse the cheap 5-led 194 bulbs to make them work, but I may have just been lucky. The LED panels however will only work when wired correctly.
