Was the original SHO awd? Is this supposed to be a mix of the Taurus and Escort Cosworth?

Another question, is that Ecoboost similar to the EcoTec Chevy has been using? Except the displacement obviously.

This whole thing reminds me of the Toyota Camry V6 that has been giving some BMWs a run for their money.

If you want to be part of the Soccer Team then the SHO is the way to go.

2 seats, one letter, no substitute. Z

It was FWD. It was essentially basic Taurus, but with a more powerful yamaha motor. It also had few minor cosmetic touches, like bumpers that read SHO and an higher reading tach. It was also the only Taurus that offered a manual transmission.

The show is interesting, but I still like my Nismo better. I'm going to have to go drive one to compare. The major difference I see is that I would drive the show still in the winter, but not the Nismo. Some one gets one I'll take the Nismo to Carlisle and we can compare.

good question, and why is the 1/4 mile time worse than the 350? It says 13.7 for the 1/4 mile for the 370 but I thought the 350 ran a 13.6 stock? Did the #'s get worse?

I wish the 350 had a 13.6 1/4 but its more like 14.5

ahhhh, its gotta be better than that. I've only been to the track a couple times and I ran a 14.1 when mine was completely stock and I had the 19in. wheels on it. With stock wheels and someone that knows what they are doing, the 350 would have to be able to bust into the mid-upper 13's I would think.

I hate to admit this but I ran a better time with my last car.... a 14 flat with a Civic!

Wayyyy to much misinformation here to let it go...

I read this thread and LOL'ed all the way down. First, the SHO is a family sedan and weighs over 4k, apples to oranges.

If you want to compare mag numbers, go with motortrend, they use REAL drivers. The 370Z does 0-60 in 4.6 and the 1/4 in 13.2

For 40k, no one should buy either. Buy a base Z and spend the 10k to build the engine. There are currently 3 companies producing twin turbo kits (Greddy, GTMotorsports, Amplified Motorsport) and 3 working on supercharger setups, to include Stillen, GTMotorsports and Vortech. GTMotorsports has a G37 rolling around making 600whp safely on stock internals. A conservative tuned kit on the 370 makes 500whp. The aftermarket is growing exponentially for the Z34, and its been out for less than a year. The SHO will have ZERO support, why? its a family sedan.

Heres an example: http://www.gtmotorsports.com/p...age=1

http://www.vimeo.com/6709986

450whp GTMotorsport Supercharger: http://www.gtmotorsports.com/p...age=1

For the guy in the supercharged G, no sir, your car will not rape a stock 370, ask me how I know Hint...I drive one.

The Z34 makes its money in the twisties and AutoX events. Routinely posts faster times than the new EVO and STI respectively, keep in mind they are both AWD. Read last months issue of DSport for a comparo. For the money, you will not find a better car for 29k, it just wont happen. Let the flame war begin.

p.s. for the guy who said something about a 135i, I LOL'ed at that one too, seriously guy?

you can compare numbers all day and night for all i care..interesting reading..but in the end i WILL NOT EVER buy another car made in detroit!!! i have lost all faith in them to build anything that will last over 5 years and still be dependable. But the final straw was when i took my last ford to the dealer for repairs, and was told "the company headquarters refused to let them work on any vehicle over 10 years old"!!! i wasn't really looking to buy a car when i bought my Z, but was kinda forced into it by detroit.. maybe i should send them a "thank you " note, just to let them know that i not only bought 1 nissan..but have since bought another...

Not really misinformation, but go ahead and try.
Red370 wrote: I read this thread and LOL'ed all the way down. First, the SHO is a family sedan and weighs over 4k, apples to oranges.
Glad we could entertain you.

The Taurus is a family sedan? OMG! Really? Holy hell, stop the presses.

No one ever said it wasn't an apples-to-oranges comparison. The point was, it's sad that the Tortoise can damn near hang with the 370.
Red370 wrote: If you want to compare mag numbers, go with motortrend, they use REAL drivers.
As opposed to mannequins?
Red370 wrote: The 370Z does 0-60 in 4.6 and the 1/4 in 13.2
Sometimes. Testing numbers vary. Always have.
Red370 wrote: Buy a base Z and spend the 10k to build the engine.
Agree 100%.
Red370 wrote: A conservative tuned kit on the 370 makes 500whp.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that's a bit of a stretch, considering that's 540-560 at the crank (assuming 10% driveline loss)... That's not likely with a "conservative" (defined as running on pump gas) tune.
Red370 wrote: The aftermarket is growing exponentially for the Z34, and its been out for less than a year. The SHO will have ZERO support, why? its a family sedan.
Ummm, duh.

Again, the point of this thread was to point out that sometimes it's interesting when you compare dissimilar cars - Sometimes surprising.
Red370 wrote:For the guy in the supercharged G, no sir, your car will not rape a stock 370, ask me how I know Hint...I drive one.
I don't need to ask you how you know.

See, the difference is this: I drove a 370Z extensively a year before you ever could have (spent 2 days in 2 preproduction 370's), and have quite a bit of track time in my supercharged G (which is fairly heavily modded, btw).

I don't say things without knowing what I'm talking about - but please understand, I absolutely LOVE the 370 (I think it's a phenomenal sports car for the money).

Braking is a bit weak, but again, comparing it to the 03-04 G with Brembos is a bit unfair... that setup was pretty aggressive for an OEM setup, and Nissan brakes of late are widely reported to be... lacking.
Red370 wrote: The Z34 makes its money in the twisties and AutoX events. Routinely posts faster times than the new EVO and STI respectively, keep in mind they are both AWD. For the money, you will not find a better car for 29k, it just wont happen.
Also agreed. Well-said.

I spent a couple days on Miller Motorsports Park irritating the piss out of a few STi's, an Evo owner, and a certain Elise who couldn't quite figure out why I could go as deep into the corners as him before braking...

And you're right - The 370 with a few bolt-ons and some R-comps is gonna make some believers.

(I despise STi's and Evo's, but that's personal.)

I was more impressed with the 370's upper-end torque than anything else. Without downshifting, just rolling into it at 50mph+ is just awesome.
Red370 wrote:p.s. for the guy who said something about a 135i, I LOL'ed at that one too, seriously guy?
No kidding. 135i? Pffft. We're talking about cars for men, not sorority girls.

p.s. Red370, welcome aboard. Hope you don't mind the initial hazing.

Thanks for the welcome. I couldnt agree more with your points, for the most part.

About the S/C G and the "raping", to me, when I consider "raping" someone in a race, I think 3 or 4 car lengths or better. So far my best time in my G is a 12.8, while my best in the Z is a 13.2 with the 6MT, while to some, that would be a night and day difference right? In all actuality, it equates to a 1 1/2 car length, which is surprising, given my G is boosted while the Z is stock.

The reason the 370 does so well is of course the fact that it shedded some weight, stiffened up the stock suspension, and with the new 3.7L VVEL engine, the torque comes on gradual and stays linnear throughout the power band, unlike the HR which came on in a rush in a much lower RPM and faded quickly. Not too mention the Z reaches max HP at 7k, which allows for a higher top end.

Here's just a list of things to come:I'm really looking forward to the Stillen Supercharger. They really screwed the pooch on the 350/G setup, mainly because of the weak M62 blower, which made ZERO power and required an aftermarket hood, a lose-lose situation. Kyle at Stillen posts regularly on the 370 boards and keeps us all posted on the current build for the Z, and so far he says they are going with an M90 blower WHILE KEEPING THE STOCK HOOD!!!!

GTM is using a Rotrex compressor and expects to churn out 450whp w/ 370 ft./lbs, wow!

Brian Crower is currently in the process of developing a stroker kit/cams that will take displacement beyond 4.0L, imagine? a TT'ed 4.2L engine? insanity.

I'm excited for the future of this car, and like I said before, this car has the potential to be a track monster for less than the cost of a stock EVO/STI

Speaking of some AWD ownage, take a look at AE Performance's 370Z and the a$$whoopin' it put on everyone at the track, 1st place!!!http://www.nagtroc.org/forums/...34085

For all the nay-sayers, I tell you this, do NOT count the 370 out, the link above proves why you shouldnt.

For those comparing a 350 to the 370, do some research, hell test drive one, theres no comparison, the 370 is better in every respect, faster, lighter, handles better, more affordable, faster aftermarket development at comparative stages, the list goes on. Oh and to add insult to injury, I avg. 30mpg on the highway

The 370Z is a beast and I believe we’ve only seen the tip of this cars potential. I have an 08 350Z and while I love my car, the lack of after market support, compared to 03-06 models and the new 370z, is aggravating.

My bad - I was talking road course.

And that's some impressive action on the 1/4 mile... I haven't had mine out to the drags since boosting it...

I'll have a 370 in the driveway within the next 12 months, no question. I'm a bit disappointed that they're not keeping with their original pricing promises (base models under 30K), but it'll come around - They're not moving them, so they can sell at invoice, or they can sit on 'em.

Nissan's having a heard time learning the lesson that it's better to unload units at invoice than it is to keep paying to display them (*ahem* GTR *ahem*)

Now, make with the pics of the G and Z.

Actually, shorting wheelbase and widening track width is key component for better handling.

Annabelle

And Roxy, my new love

And for kicks, The "Z" Club, we roll deep.

I've yet to take any pics of them together because back in June, I was T-boned in the G, and its sitting in my moms garage back in Ohio waiting to be repaired (i'm in the military and its not easy dealing with issues all the way across the country), I sure miss her, but the Z is a fine replacement!

Man, you're in the right place.

Any man who names his cars is badass in my book (only 2 of ours don't have names, the other 5 do).

G is totally sleeper status - Love it.

p.s. Thanks for your service.
