Someone was broken into my car last Friday.

The plastic piece that covers the door lock was on the floor, and the lock was broken. They didn't steal anything, even my Passport 8500 was still here. But one thing was weird, the passenger side window was down, and the driver side window was partially down. I didn’t know how they could do that, (even the cops were wondering too) then I closed all the windows, and tried to put in my key in the key hole. Because of the broken lock, I couldn’t even put in the whole key, I could only put in a little bit, but the windows were going down. The driver side window was partially down because of the broken lock prevented it to go all the way down. I have a 06 G35 Coupe with Premium and intelligent key, and I don’t understand why the security is so badly. With the lock is broken, and both windows are gone down, that is unacceptable.

Anyway, does anyone know the part number for the lock, and how can I prevent this to happen again? I mean to prevent the windows are going down with the lock is broken.

Thanks

JC

I'd guess they somehow accessed the window roll-down feature of the driver lock. The dealer may be able to disable this feature. To be honest though, break-ins on any car are relatively easy. Stealing the G35 (as well as most new cars are significantly harder due the the transponder systems integrated into the ignitions modules. There is a lot that needs to be done to actually hot wire a car and get past it's steering lock as well. Getting into a car is realistically no harder than breaking a window. And there are many ways to break glass without a hard impact. Throwing a small fragment of spark plug ceramic is no urban legend. I've actually seen this work and the impact to the glass is quite light(most shock sensors wouldn't detect it). The noise is not very loud either, but is somewhat audible. A good alarm with a shock and glass break sensor might help, but if they just want to break in and steal something, they'll be long gone before you can even get your remote out to shut off the alarm. An alarm along with parking the car somewhere visible by many people is probably the best defense. Unfortunately, there is no guaranteed way to prevent break-ins or even thefts for that matter.

Similar thing happened to me not long ago. They got the plastic piece off of the door lock and that was it. I am guessing that they got spooked by someone. I found the plastic cover on the ground by the car.

I still haven't replaced it. The clips on the back were broke so it won't stay on now.

Yeah Ryan, I read your post, and I was the unlucky one. They broke the lock, and now my driver side door couldn't be open. I can't drive it anywhere. The only think i can do is to wait for some free days to bring it back to the dealer. That sucks...

Thanks for C-Kwik's suggestion. I may ask the dealer to disable that stupid function. I already have a viper on it, which now I think it's useless. Maybe a compustar with a high pitch siren may help...
