i tried to drop my rb20 in last night, and it looks like the stock mounts wont work. everywhere i've read, it says that the stock mounts will work. somebody want to prove me wrong? please? if anybody has a picture of the stock mounts on their rb 20 bolted into an s13 that would be much appreciated.

Just for clarification your are using the R32 GTSt xmember right?

What is making it look like it wont work?

I have a friend with an RB20 sitting on an R32 xmember and everything worked perfectly. Some more details would be helpful.

No way the stock KA x-member will work with stock RB20 mounts -- you need an R32 xmember. Or, if you're dead set on running the KA X-Member, you'll need McKinney or TopHat style motor mounts.

I found out my motor set came with a KA x-member when I tried to bolt it to the stock mounts in the garage. I know what you mean, the mounts are off by several inches... I just bought an r32 x-member.

Edit: As Sil240 pointed out, I believe the Syko mounts require an R33 xmember.

Yeah, you're right I forgot the Syko mounts require the R33 x-member. At least for the RB25, I don't know if they have a different kit for the 20.

I've been happy just using aftermarket mounts, however I haven't driven it yet, even so next time I'm going with a x-member swap either R32 and stock or R33 and Syko, I doubt I'd have second thoughts about that.

The only way is to jump into the swap and do it. There are so many little obstacles along the way that make the swap fun/challenging.

Heh, thanks for the advice. That's pretty much what everyone's told me. The only problem is, it looks like I'm going to have to pay someone else to do the swap for me. I can't get to a shop to do it myself. I have about four people who are more than willing to help me, but no one with a shop. I really want to do the swap myself, but it doesn't look like I'll be able to.

Great news...I have a shop and all the tools and such to do it in...I'm going to do the swap myself. I also have at least two people who want to help, and a professional to keep an eye over the project with me. A few things I need to know, though: stock KA mounts. Will they work or not? Crossmember? Driveshaft? Also, any place I can find wiring diagrams and information on the PCM for the engine, and what model Skyline it came out of. R32, I believe. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me. It's an RB20DET, that's all I know at the moment. Anyone who has done this swap before...little things I will absolutely have to change, will I need to resurface the flywheel and get a new one? Hooking up the ECU. Have no idea when doing a swap like this. Unplug my old one, solder connections, clip it in, and mount it? Or is it more complicated? This clip is supposed to come with an LSD...will that work with my stock driveshaft? Any help with this will be appreciated.

All of those questions can be answered by reading the stickies and by reading the files section on racebread.com. If you're doing the swap yourself, you have to do your due diligence and research things for yourself. That way, when things go badly, you will be familiar with where to look.

Well, the reason I ask about the parts and such is I'm on a very limited budget, and I need to know what I absolutely have to spend. I've done a good bit of reading here and found some extremely useful information, but I've also heard a lot of different stuff from people. I trust this forum, though, because most of the people here seem very knowledgeable. But I want to do this right, so I'm trying to gather all the information I can from lots of sources, and see what is the most consistent.

Well, I am having a hard time finding wiring diagrams...I'm ordering a clutch from Spec, getting all the necessary gauges, and this clip comes with a crossmember and motor mounts. So, with everything I've read, all I need is to splice the harnesses, get a one piece driveshaft, and drop this stuff in. But every time I ask a question in this place, all I get is, "Read the $%^@*^! stickies....no one really wants to give me a straight answer. I've read the $%^@*^! stickies, and I still have questions. If you can't or don't wish to answer my question, I can find the stickies myself. You all sound like a bunch of monkeys who have been taught to direct one to the stickies.

Ok...so, Carl, what are your rates, how fast can you do it and ship it back to me, and can you give me any other tips on my swap? Thanks in advance.
