Hey guys, bare with me... I'm a GTR noob.

I just moved to Japan and I went on a total impulse buy. I'm now a proud owner of a 1990 R32 GTR.

Now, being the noob that I am. I said to my self, "I've been driving a manual transmission for blah blah years and I can drive that".

Well anyhow, apparently I can't handle a twin plate performance clutch. Well, more like I can't drive it normally on the street haha.

Any suggestions? I'm running low 400hp. I'm looking to take it to the tracks in the future but I need to be able to drive it abit more to build some confidence with it.

Anyhow, looking forward to you all schooling me.Thanks,Phil

multi plate clutches don't suffer novices. You will only get better by driving it. After enough practice you will discover the friction zone of the twin. You will then be ready for my solid disk triple aka "the on/off switch"

Total GT-R noob and you purchase a 400hp Skyline....

Be careful.

Also, aren't you supposed to keep the revs a little higher with a twin plate when engaging the clutch? Not sure, but I seem to think so. It does make a bit of sense.

With 4WD I would think so but you can get used to it to the point of slipping the clutch almost as smooth as stock. The triple will give you whiplas and my solid disk twin in the RX7 really embarrassed me several times before I got a feel for it. The sprung twin in the 180 is a bit more forgiving but at low RPMs can get the car jerking about. Pick your gear and commit to it and for the most part you are fine.

Twins are not bad... Triples are a ***** to drive on the street. A fellow I know will be running a Quad plate, says he will drive it on the street... laughed in his face.

Just find the friction point, once you get used to it you will not have problems

the biggest problem I have is when I get in friends cars I ram the clutch pedal to the floorboard because I am used to the stiffer twin plate.

Is the R32 a pull\push clutch mechanism? I'm heavily considering trying to see if I can get a super single plate that'll give me a little more drivability on the street. Considering the traffic out here is absolutely disgusting....

Any suggestions out there? So far, the times I get a smooth start with no bogging and without looking like a total idiot by stalling is when I rev it and drop it.... Now being on a military post and with terrible up hill traffic, that's going to be a no go out here

Just out of curiosity, where exactly is Sugamihara? What prefecture are you in?

If you are in Tokyo area, I'm not that far from ya. We should meet up sometime.

Hey I'm about 1 hour away from Tokyo off the Odakyu line. Um nearest area that you might know of, Machida. Let me know, I'm usually in Roppongi or Shibuya on the weekends.

Oh man, I hate Roppongi sometimes, well, usually only if I am there on the weekends.

Those Nigerian guys that try to get you into their clubs just won't let off. That, and about 90% of the military that go up there, (not including you, cause I don't really know you) do nothing but act like total douchebags.

If you ever drive to Daikoku, be sure to be carefull. Check out the post in Gen Chat about modified cars in Japan.

Oh I hear you about the Nigerians. I usually goto the Roppongi stop off of the uh, um Odeo line. A971 by the midtown area. It's pretty decent there, nice people.

Hey let me know if you wanna go one day. Once again though, I'm still new to the area so I'm always exploring. Hell if you wanna help me, let me know come and check out the GTR. I got it stored in a garage right now, so I figure later this week or next week I'm going to strip the clutch to see what kind it is.

Can't complain about free tools!

Phil

driving a twin plate isn't too bad once you get used to it...just like learning to drive a manual for the first time...i didn't enjoy driving a twin plate all that much though
