somebody help me set the timing on my 89 coupe

i need help setting the timing on 89 coupe it has a ka24e motor i have all the marks right according to the hayes manual but the car refuses to run today it started up for all of one second after setting the timing at about 16 degrees on the crank pulley marks help me!!! what am i doing wrong or forgetting? if any one can help me i will personally worship u

warm up the engine all the way. turn off the engine. disconnect the tps (throttle position sensor). start up the engine again. point the timing light at the little pin that's pokin out of the front cover. You'll see a bunch of lines show up on the crank pulley. You're lookin for the second to last mark on the crank pulley. You move the timing about by first loosening the two bolts holding the distributor in place. Rotate the distributor to advance or retard the timing. Adjust till you're at 15BTDC, retighten the distributor. Make sure you're still at 15BTDC and then shut down the engine. Plug back in the TPS and go about your merry way.

thats the problem the car wont start its set at 15 well ok 16 degrees but will not start. heres my any help would be appreciated

I edited your phone number out in case of pranksters and stuff. Ok, so at 15 it did not start, but did it start at other time?

no it hasn't right now its at about 16 and it started for all of 1 second i tried to give it some gas but it just cut off

So you bought a car with an engine that didn't start?

thats not an answer to my question but no the car did run it just had a different motor in it that had some head problems so i got this other motor but i wanted to check the head gasket in it before i put it in so i removed the head and now that is in the car i can't get the timing right so that it will at least start
