It almost sounds like he got a lemon or something, both versa's I've test driven have been very smooth and quiet.

That guy was real constructive. I s'pose, if you drive a Lexus or some other vehicle the Versa may not appear to be as refined. For me, I went from a 96 Grand Am SE to this car and I love it. Although not as torquey as my Grand Am it definitely goes and rides very comfortably. As for the seats folding down, well, compared to the Vibe/Matrix it's a bit of a dissappointment but you can still fit a lot of stuff in the back with the seats down. Plus I rather have extra room for my passengers.

Wow! My Versa is more quiet than my brother's 2005 Expedition and my son's 2003 4Runner! It's also more quiet than my other son's 2006 Honda Civic SI.

It was MOST certainly more quiet than the 2005 Vibe, 2006 Honda Civic sedan, and 2006 Sentra sedan we test drove.

He must have had his head hanging out the window when he test drove it because every person we've had ride with us in the 10 days we have owned is shocked how quiet it is.

It sounds like he was not used to driving the CVT. That's what happened to me when I test drove a CVT. The immediate revving felt uncontrolled and revealed the not so nice noise that the engine can produce. At speed, the package has to be one of the quitest around but it does not sound like he wanted to mentioned that fact.

I couldn't stand the CVT because it was so atypical it felt unnatural.

As for his comments regarding the choppy ride, I could not agree more. The whole car has a tendency to shudder over large obstacles which ruins an otherwise refined ride. Body lean I can live with more or less. Good thing he didn't have time to check the mileage.

He also ignored the value proposition of the whole package which is higher than most.

I think he was on the money for everything but the noise. Drove a Yaris, and it was much louder on the highway.

Odd, though...I seem to recall a Forum post about a month ago, with someone making the same complaint about high noise levels. I wonder if there were some quality control issues and some cars made it to the dealers with some soundproofing messed up. My wife has a Lexus SUV, and I'll stack the Versa's noise levels against it.

The reviewer was on the money about handling, as I posted a couple of weeks back. It sure corners ugly, with a lot of apparent body roll. I've owned a number of small cars, from a '46 Willys Jeep to a VW Beetle to a Pontiac Sunbird, and the Versa probably has the worst body roll. Fortunately, I'm old enough now where it doesn't make that much difference. :-)

Like the reviewer, I think the high seating position tends to make the body roll seem worse. I *do* like the high seats, though.

I drove the car before buying it, so I knew how it handled before deciding on the car. But I'm gonna be real curious to see how the Versa stacks up in Consumer Reports emergency manuever testing.

Clearly, this was a case of someone not being used to the CVT. As many of us know, if one is expecting an RPM and engine noise to drop in steps as the transmission shifts up while stepping on a car with a CVT, this does not happen. RPM stays right there as the speed increases instead. To the uninitiated, that would sound like a prolonged drone. This is a common complaint I hear in Japan where more and more cars are strictly CVT and people are finding out the "oddities" about this kind of transmission.

I don't think the CVT Versa is noisy at all. It's very quiet, in fact.
