After searchin, I dont really see a consensus on when to rebuild the bottom end. everyone is saying drastically different things, from 4-5 hundred to 250-350 on stock internals. I am looking for about 300-320whp at absolute most, I dont car how much boost it takes as long as it is not damaging the turbo or maxing out the setup. I want a mild tune that I know will last, I dont know how much boost this will take eithe. As I look, people are claiming drastically different numbers on the same boost and very silimar setups. I may decide to put it on a course for drift or autox but it will definately be used for daily light to light *** haulin'. please dont list your setups. Ive read numerous set ups and that is the reason I am asking the question.

Mostly i need to know whether or not I am truly reliable at 300-320whp on the KA with stock internals...the other threads have been very wish washy on this issue. I need to be able to assume the car is good on long trips and on the track with the same tune. I dont want anything maxed out as theat means more likely to fail.

This thread has been edited. Don't let me catch you guys linking an off site KAT forum again. There is nothing that can't be found right here. If you don't like the rules, we can talk about it and maybe arrange for a vacation from Nico.

This isn't a place to up your post count either. I don't like post whores. If you're not going to add somthing related to the thread topic, then don't add anything at all. I'm normally not a hard ***, but you guys pushed two of my buttons at once.

If you'd like to address this, I can be emailed at [email protected] or AIM WDRacin

First off,

Welcome to Nico and KAT . If you can't find your answer here, email me or catch me on AIM and I'll get an answer for you. But I'm sure all of the guys here will be more then able to help.

Your question is a good one. Probably one of the most worried about parts of the turbo equation. How much before she pops? I used to think the number was in the 450's or so. I also figured the pistons would go before the rods. Turns out I was wrong on both accounts.

There have been several of us including myself who have tossed a rod through the block. Always the #3 which worries me. But we were in the 400's or close to.

I haven't heard of anyone tossing a rod in the 350 range. Unless of course it was do to an lubrication problem causing a bearing to spin.

Point being this, if your motor is good running order then you're in good shape. Get the appropriate gauges to monitor everything, Boost and Oil pressure for sure. Then pick out a turbo kit that fits your needs. Don't use a small turbo, they become heat pumps and cause to much back pressure. But we can discuss that in another thread if you need some help picking out a kit. Back on topic, if you tune the engine management correctly, you won't pop anything. We used to see people popping pistons because of detonation, I haven't very mainy of those in awhile. The key is tuning and having a good motor that you take care of. This will lead to longevity.

In short, you're good for 350 on stock internals. They just have to be good stock internals.

Stock internals on a high mileage motor 140k-200k, I have 2? should I replace for safety and for the sake of not having to do it later?

thanks...Im here, but I still love the SR...I love both...i guess Im a double dipper. I haven't completely turned KA-t. I just gotta try it or I cant go on as an S chassis lover.

Also

I apologize for whatever happened before...i didnt think I linked anything...

Uncle WD can be grumpy old man sometimes.. j/k!

But that sounds about right to me. As you can see in my sig, the pistons don't like detonation. I was running 12-15 psi on a 180k block with 370cc injectors. That was before I knew what the beans detonation was. Ran awesome with the 740cc's I bought, but blow-by was a b***h because of the broken ring lands. And I was still able to just hone the block after all that! Try that with an aluminum block. Or maybe they're sleeved? I have no idea. It's almost 5am and I wanted to get my $.02 in. I'll see if I can find it, but I found a video once of some kids that hopped a curb and bashed a hole in the KA's oil pan. Then the commenced upon trying to blow it up. The video is about 7 minutes long, cutting in and out, of them beating the beans outta it. They finally threw a rod through the block and actually went back and found it. Funny thing is after they tossed the rod, the kid dumped the clutch and it fired back up and he kept on beating on it. I know I'm totally off topic, but I'm trying to get a comparison here. The KA is a very stout motor. Most people say it's a truck motor, but I think it's a I4 on 'roids in stock form.

*edit* Found that vid of the horrible abuse this KA went through. These kids should be shot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbFv9WQIpAA

yeah, Ive seen this vid. I left a message and I think they said they never really got that motor to stop running. even with the gap and smoke and flames. That is sweet. Nissan should use it for a commercial or somethin.

I want a boosted motor that is that durable. I guess I will sheck and see what inexpensive units evryone is using. I am just trying to avoid a $1500 block build. I want that money to go toward the management and finding the correct fuel/air supply.
