so i cleaned the maf sensor and replaced the coolant temp sensor.I took it for a test ride for the first time in 6 mon.Drove it around for 5 min and it stalled twice .Kept driving it for another 10 min around the streets and it was perfect. Then I took it on the highway for 20 min and around 40 mph it hesitated(kind of kicked or it felt like there was no gas and after a second was fine) that happened about 10 times at 40 and 60 mph. When I got off the highway to make a u turn got to a stop sign ,hit the gas pedal to go and it hesitated. got back on the highway and hesitated a few times at 60. When I got back home and put it in park the idle was jumping between 800 and like 200 and stalled. The thing is before I cleaned the maf sensor and replaces the tcs, when id turn the car on it would jump idle all over the place and sometimes stall. id actually hear the intake trying to suck air. after i did that stuff I started the car and it was fine.Let it run ten min and it was fine.

My temp gauge hasent worked for a long time what could that be. do u think leaving it not working caused some problems. Im gonna change the thermostat. I already changed the plugs. what else can i check for to fix this. thank you guys

Pull the ECU codes and let us knowq if that turns up any faults.

I share ur frustration!

There are most likely MORE than 1 problem with ur J.

Stall + hesitation = spark plugs? ignition coil? fuel filter? dirty throttle body?fuel regulator/damper? fuel pump? dirty/failed fuel injector? timing is off? knock sensor bad?

unstable idle = dirty IACV valve? dirty throttle body?

usually these two problems manifest each other.

Start from the simple soluton first! run a can of BG 44K, change spark plugs, change fuel filter.

good luck

If you decide to change your plugs, stick to the OEM NGK's. Other brands are known to cause problems.

I would recommend pulling the codes off your ECU first. It will help isolate the problem.

Yeah dude, there are a lot of different possibilities. I would get in there and just clean out everything you can. Run some Seafoam, change plugs, clean the TBs, clean out the EGR tubes while you're in there, clean the MAF sensor connections (if you didn't before).

There's a sticky at the top of the main J30 area that will tell you how to pull the codes, if you don't know.Good luck.

Does your air take a long time to heat up?

i have done just about everything above...and still have hesitation problems @ 40 and 80....ecu is showing NO CODES...i cleaned the MAF yesterday and all that did was improve my idle...i know im not running NGK plus im running autolite double platinums...but would that REALLY cause such a hesitation?also how would i diagnose my fuel regulator and ignition coils....car runs and starts like normal just that annoying hesitation @ 40 and 60....

i changed the plugs a few weeks ago and also pulled the codes and got 55.wich is no stored codes. sunday i got a bottle of lucus and poured it in my tank to clean the fuel system. also changed the coolant temp sensor and cleaned maf sensor im gonna clean the throtle body and aic valves but its starting to get really cold this is drivin me nuts im about to go to a mechanic but i really dont want to becuase im preety good at fixing things and i cant afford anything over 100 bucks. The heating is preety normal and comes out hot but my gf told me she smells something everytime i start it. i dont really smell anything.

Kbflip hope u fix it cause its drivin me nuts if i find anything or bring it to a mechanic i will keep u updated hope u do the same. Cause if u feel my pain i feel bad for u its getting annoying

ok so this is what ive come up with...the only way to be able to tell what the car is doing from what several mechanics have told me is to put it on the dyno and check it with some sort of consult...im going to try swapping the fuel regulator out and see what that does....also im changing the powersteering pump myself so there will definately be a writeup on that....ive run seafoam...cleaned EGR, cleaned throttle bodies...i wonder what the hell this problem could be....im hoping its simple....ill keep you posted with my findings

Maybe it's the transmission slipping?

Do you have a copy of the FSM? I believe there's a site where the '94, or maybe it's the '95, manual can be downloaded for free.

What's the engine idle rpm speed sitting still with the engine fully warmed up, your foot on the brake and the transmission in Drive?

Is the temperature gauge simply not working or could the sender be bad or could the thermostat be stuck OPEN, lengthening the engine warm-up time and possibly not communicating necessary info to the ECM?

I just warmed my car up put it in drive and the rpms dropped from 700 to about 100 and wanted to shut off.usually my idle cold is 700 and when warmed up it jumps to about 1800 down to 700 over n over

I have a service manual on cd rom. I also check my maf sensor and it reads.021v ignition on and .031v car warmed its suppose to be .8 ignition on and between.8 and 1.5 car warm

Sounds like it's time for a new MAF.
