Some weird things about my two RB25's. Different series?

Discuss the RB20, RB25 and RB26 series engines.

Just wondering what you all think about these pics? I ordered two RB25's and this is how they came. I have a feeling that 1 is a Series I and 1 is a Series II, but they are both exactly the same besides the things I'm about to mention.

This is the first transmission I got that was already bolted to the RB25.

Both engines have this weird place on the back of the coil covers where it would look like you'd put the ignitor, but there is no ignitor, and no ignitor in the harness.

Also, I've read somewhere that the TPS sensor on series 1 engines have only 1 plug into it, and the series II have two plugs? Both of mine have the two plugs on it though?

I just thought these were some weird differences, and if you have any comments, or things I should look for to tell the two series apart, let me know. Like I've said before, I have no ignitors anywhere to be found, so I don't know if they are missing(if the motors are series I), or if I don't even need them (if the motors are series II)....and btw if anyone wants the newer looking one that is still crated up, let me know. Looking for something around $2200 shipped. [email protected]

Thanks All, Justin

looks like the "thinner" transmission is the KA/SR/RB20 transmission

the motor mounts for the first one might be out of a different car. stagea, cefiro, etc.? the motor was probably mounted in a car other than skyline gtst

That's so weird cause the thinner transmission came off of the first RB25 I got, and it fit so perfectly. But it also makes sense, cause the Cefiro came with a RB20, and they could have just used the Cefiro mounts and transmission and swapped in a RB25.

As far as tps, s2 has 2 tps plugs, s1 has only one. S2 has no ignitor chip, s1 has an ignitor chip. The transmission though, im at a loss for words, it looks a lot smaller, similar to rb20 /ka? maybe they're onto something with the cefiro...could it have been in a non skyline car?

Cefiros only came auto to my knowledge, Laurels could be had manual. The smaller transmission could be and RB20DE/DET or RB25DE (early model). The RBs all have the same transmission pattern so it could ba any RB transmission, fit's FJs too

so I have two series II motors then...that's awesome. I thought for sure that one of them was a series I. As far as the transmission goes, I'll check for that number/letter combo later this evening and update. Is there anything wrong with the RB20 transmission if that's what it is? I guess trannies are easy enough to change but I would rather it not break the first 20 minutes of driving.

The fat box is RB25DET, the thin box is RB20E, RB20DE, RB20DET, RB25DE or RB30E box. It is 100% NOT a RB25DET box.S2 RB25s don'thave ignitor ont he back, different TPS plug and a PINK AFM, instead of Green.
