Chalk another one up fellas.

This picture is of me leaving my driveway 2 times. That is how much atf fluid drops out of the car. It is from the HICAS or I guess the power steering. This is terrible and completely unacceptable. This will not stand, man. The Dude does not abide.

The steering is sloppy, I have done some searches and from the looks of it I am going to need a new rack/bushings.. the whole nine.

There is also a grinding metal on metal noise when the wheel is turned. You can get a full 1/4 turn on the wheel when in park before it reacts.

What is that grinding noise, it is not the p/s pump, you can feel it in the wheel and it comes from the rack. Is it the pinion bearing?

How long can I go before this thing just breaks and I lose all ability to control the car. This is kinda scary.

I wouldn't drive it any farther than T3 Like tommorrow, we see owner abuse all the time, we are numb to it.

The rack bushings fail from oil and power steering fluid saturating them. From not fixing hose and valve cover leaks....the fluids mix.

We can find some decent aftermarket racks that we get rebuilt in Atlanta by a professional........beware of chain store rack rebuilds they only change the seals and repaint.

Sure the rack bushings and boots, hoses, get changed periodically but the rack itself [and pump] should last 20 years [300,000 miles] with just ATF fluid replacement every few years.

I think you have a hose leak which destroyed the rack bushings.

Your probably going to need a new rack, unfortunately :(

I wouldnt wait too long to get this done.... You might be able to find a junkyard one (T3??), or i dont think they are too expensive from Joe...

IF its a bearing or gear inside, and its grinding/slipping as it is, then its only a matter of time......

Definately take it in to T3... Trust me, they're great guys to work with and your car will thank you.
