I bought my 2010 Versa 1.8S hatchback last night. I just have some general questions and comments.

- I'm used to new cars having grabby brakes. The Versa is the exact opposite. The brakes feel really mushy and I feel like I have to push pretty hard. Did you guys experience the same thing when you first bought the car?

- The rear passenger room is amaaaaaaazing!

- When should I put Mobil 1 in? First oil change? I've heard that you should do it after 10K miles.

- What kinda aftermarket parts have you guys added?

I look forward to being a member of this forum!

Buying a brand new car is almost better than sex!

i wouldn't go synthetic until she's fully broken in, my previous car i put mobil 1 in at around 10 000 kms.

aftermarket parts? - a few are strut bar, cat-back, intake, suspension. you will get familiar with what is available as you read more here on this site.

brakes? mine feel okay, if u worry about this 'mushy' feeling, swap out the brake lines with braided lines.

welcome!

You will find many answers to your question of when to change to synthetic oil. Years ago the main answer was to wait until the engine was fully broken in. Now, many exotic, high performance cars come with synthetic oil right from the factory. Engines now a days are built better and to tighter tolerances. I have changed to synthetic at 3,000 miles on my last four vehicles and intend to do this on mine soon.

I changed mine over to synthetic at 1k miles.

I did the oil change at 1k because it was better than waiting for 3k for the first one, just to make sure all the shards and stuff that may still come off the motor aren't in there for too long.

Versaspeed.com is a great place to start with aftermarket. He's got some pretty good stuff for the Versa.

Welcome to the forums, glad to see someone else joining and sticking around!

We have some aftermarket parts, but not many of them are for performance. Some of the items we have available are: Cold Air Intake, Exhausts, Strut Bars (Rear + Front), Sway Bar, Lightweight Pully, Headlights, Taillights, CF Hood / Hatch, ect...

There are quite a few good places to get your parts from, especially since some of the are sponsors for us over here at NICO. Check them out when you get a chance!

Stillen: http://www.stillen.com/

Extreme Dimensions:http://www.extremedimensions.c...%2D10

VersaSpeed:http://www.shop.versaspeed.com

MicroImage:http://shop.microimageonline.c...7.htm

Those are just a couple of sponsors, for a full list of them check out this thread:http://forums.nissanversa.org/zerothread/474866

Most offer discounts so don't forget to mention you are a NICO member! Enjoy your Versa and I hope this helps you with your customizing needs!

Thanks for the responses guys!

I think I'm gonna do a conventional oil change @ 1,500 miles and then wait until around 10,000 miles before I put Mobil 1 in there. I've heard that synthetic oil is not as effective during the summer because it's not "thick" enough and loses lubrication effectiveness in the intense heat.

I've got 89 miles on the V right now. Driving it conservatively and mixing up speeds to break in the engine. On the highway, I'll do a slow acceleration to 70, then 80, then back to 70 before settling down in the 65-70 range. Dumb question alert! How does Cruise Control work on a standard? Same kinda thing? For some reason, I thought standards couldn't be coupled with Cruise Control. Or was that remote start? I'll read the manual, but I have class until 9 tonight.

Things I'm Buying Soon:

- WeatherTech rear seat molded rubber mats w/ splash walls $79.00- Nismo strut bar

Things I'm Buying In The Future:

- custom leather interior

- Alloys, rear spoiler, fog lamps, and Speakers + Stereo for same reason above

I didn't intend on buying the Versa. I'd gone into the dealer showroom to waste time (it's near my school) and see if there were any advance brochures/DVDs for the Juke. I test drove the Versa and loved it. Then they asked me what it would take to do the deal and I threw out an absurdly low number and they said yes.

Recap: Went to a 9 am class. Got out. Had time to kill before my 1:25 class. Stopped by Nissan. Came out with a car. I wasn't even in the market for a new car. Life is full of surprises.

So that's how I came to be a Versa owner.

Cruise is normal on a MT. The remote start wouldn't work on MT without the clutch interlock switch being 'jumped'.

Quote » When should I put Mobil 1 in? First oil change? I've heard that you should do it after 10K miles.[/quote]You can put in Mobil 1 or any other synthetic from the first mile. You DO NOT have to break in the engine with another oil before going to synthetic oil. It's laughable that this myth still persists. This was dispelled many years ago.

If there are any trace metal bits, that's what you have an oil filter for. Change it every 3750 (3 months) or 7500 miles (6 months) depending on your driving. Maybe somewhere in between.

You don't need to change it at 1000 miles. Go with synthetic right from the start and change it again at 5000 or so. You'll get better protection, you won't waste money and you won't drain good oil before its time.

I will agree that while the brakes on my Versa do their job, they do seem like they could be a little better. The 3,200 pound 98 Honda CR-V we replaced had brakes that would throw you foward if you weren't used to it. The brakes on it sat under 15" wheels no bigger than the Versa's. I may try some higher performance pads when the stock ones finally wear out. If anyone has any experience with aftermarket pads, let me know.

Who the h*** told you that? The whole point of synthetic oil is that it protects your engine from that intense heat and cold starts. The thin nature of synthetic allows it to flow through your engine faster in really cold weather but like any oil, it thickens up once your engine is up to operating temp. As long as it's 0w-30 or 5w-30, you're fine. 0w-20 or 5w-20 may not protect your engine so well under hard driving in hot weather. It doesn't get thick enough at operating temp.

Shadow,

Various car nuts and gear heads here and there. There's a boatload of opinions out there. MANY, MANY, MANY people say to drive the car to the limits for the first 500 miles and the do an oil change (this effectively removes all debris and metal shavings, supposedly). Some people say drive the car like a granny for the first 5K miles. Some people say change the oil at 1K, some at 3K, and some at 10K.

I'm just gonna follow the manufacturer's advice. lol.

As a sales consultant at the Chrysler-Jeep-Nissan dealership here, it's amazing how many people say that. "I didn't even plan on buying anything today!" as they're filling out the paperwork.
