Is that Hamburg PA?

I was just down there for a GNCC race last weekend...

Interesting place to visit.

Eek! Yeah I meant to do that... ;-) Thanks for letting me know - changed... It was late, and I was sorting through like 200+ digi pix.

Oh and BTW, yes Hburg=Harrisburg Farm Show Complex. Not sure about Hamburg(?) lol

Not a bad turn-out, although the burnout comp. left some to be desired... less chance of blowin' tires on a steel plate... blea...

I heard that there were two bad wrecks outside the complex later in the night. One girl broke both legs doin' doughnuts... not sure on the details... Comes with the territory I suppose. <shrug>

Personally I liked Carlisle better, but the indoor SCCA rally comp was worth it!

Harrisburg is about 45min away from Hamburg, which is a little speck of a town. It's right of off Interstate 78, which is probably how you were getting to Harrisburg if you were coming from the east.

Anyway, I used to live in Hamburg. Unremarkable, but it does have a Cabela's store, if you're in to the huntin', fishin' and campin' thing.

I see....

We actually stayed at the Microtel across the street from the HUGE Cabela's store. To say Hamburg is unremarkable is an extreme understatement. But the race was at Rausch Creek which is a very cool place to visit. We got to go through Potsville... or as the Hamburgers called it... "The Big City"!!! haha... I love PA though... such a killer laid back lifestyle... and the coal towns are pretty rockin'!

I've also spent some time in Shamokin, PA for races.... another desolate little town.

The coal towns north of Hamburg are pretty cool. The only good thing about living in Hamburg was that it was only a 2 hr drive to NYC, and less than that to Philadelphia.

I've never heard of Rausch Creek, was that near Hamburg?

Sorry... Rausch Creek is just the name of the motocross and cross country racing facility. It is outside of Tremont (sp?). It was about a half hour drive from Hamburg... to the west if I recall correctly.

If you ride Dirt bikes or ATV's it's a hell of a cool place to go. We didn't have time to ride the motocross tracks... but anybody can just show up and use the tracks for super-cheap. The cross country course was sick... 11 miles of nasty-ness!

I didn't see this mentioned elsewhere on the forum, so I may as well fill everyone in. Apparently the incidents/accidents at Harrisburg didn't go over well with officials - the Custom Compact show is not allowed to return to the Farm Show Complex next year.

This makes two venues now in two years that the show has been banned from. I'm begining to wonder what's left here in PA for events. I'm sure there are better shows to hit up over this one, but Iv' been a regular the last few years, and it's just convieniently close. Looks like I'll be goin' to VA for the import show in July...

The details are a bit scarce - I heard of the wrecks from word-of-mouth right after the show. Today I was told about the banning from Hburg - a friend living around Lancaster saw it on the news. Anyone have any links to more info?

<sigh> Only takes one I suppose...

PS: nametakenow: yeah, those rubbers are sick on that Skyline!!!

That truly sucks....

But, you have to consider the demographics of the crowd that this kind of show attracts. Like you said... it only takes one or two immature idiots trying to show off to ruin it for everybody. With that many young kids driving "fast" cars... it's a pretty sure thing something like this will happen if there isn't a HUGE police presence.
