First off, I really want to buy some LSD for my car but im not sure which one to get. Im leaning more towards a Kaaz clutch-type LSD instead of the cheaper VLSD. I also cant decide whether to get the 1.5way or 2way if I do decide and get the Kaaz one. I was also wondering how hard is LSD to install considering it should be a good fit.

there's an install guide at http://www.240sx.org that can give you a guestimate about how difficult/easy the install is. if you have a friend, the install will be easy. I haven't had a chance to drive around in cars with different clutch types, but I've seen more people (pro teams as well) go for 1.5 clutches.

if it is street driven i would stay away from a 2 way. and the kaaz is also going to be alot better and hold alot more torque than a vlsd. in the long run it will probably be worth the extra cash.

A bump and another question... How exactly is it that the 2way is more dangerous for street use then 1.5way? Cause how I see it is that 2way is better for drifting, but im also going to use this car alot for regular use. Why is 2way so much more dangerous?

i have a 2-way kaaz.....full lock on decel.....i wouldn't reccomend it if you are not fully confident of your driving skill.......2 way is better for drifting but i've been in this game for a long time ....and as whiterps13 said.....the kaaz will hold more torque and probably be more durable......a vlsd works on a fluid and is totally different. it is just a matter of your confidence, experience, money, and purpose.

yeah i just checked the install page on 240.org.....not gonna help you if you get a kaaz....not as easy as switching pumpkins.....you switching in inards of the diff....anyways if you have not done it and don't know someone who has...you better off finding a shop that has...make sure you find a shop that knows what they are doing though.....you are paying a grand for that lsd

Yea, I read up and it said that you need a pro to install it. Im still not sure what is dangerous about the 2way though... I called up Kaaz and they told me all they have now is 2way and theyd go 10% off but then I still have to pay tax. So that just about offsets eachother. And yes, I am new in this scene, but if I knew what to avoid being new with a 2way maybe I can still go for it. If I think its just out of my league, then ill have to figure something else out.

I just got my Kaaz 2way in yesterday...still breaking it in sigh. I've spent so much money on it so i dun want to mess around with it by doin it myself or letting some idiot mechanic learn how to do it with my lsd. I beleive they discontinue 1.5 way. The only one is the 2ways. Eddie Radatz installed mine so i trust him ^_^. It's very loud at the moment and makes my car chunkin back and forth when i gas it in a turn...still new. But I love it so much. Have u try NISMO on phase2motortrend? they're 100 cheaper but Kaaz is better.

After reading as much about it as I can, I only know the difference between 1.5 and 2way. I figure the reason that the 2way is more dangerous is because it keeps a positive lock during deceleration making it harder to break. For anyone that has information about this can you help me understand the effects of this while actually driving? I hear that the 1.5way is more stable while braking, but im not sure when this really takes into effect. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated because I dont really know what im doing.

IF you can I, I can tell you how 2way is like after several days. I know that with 2ways you will lose control easilly(especially in the rain when you corner). Thus wearing of the rear tires will increase due to more oversteers. You can somewhat predict the movement of the car and where it will steer with 2way. My **** is still breaking in!!!I can't wait till it's time for some massive level of abusements..haha

If you don't know wtf you're doing, get a VLSD. Nothing wrong with them. Sure KAAZ locks a little different but hey, a VLSD out of a 300zx or Q45 would be sufficient.

is it a simpler swap with q45 or 300zx vlsd? would it just be swapping the pumpkins? or would I need the whole rear end? and will my drive shaft hook up to it?

Hello,

I was busy doing research on a new diff for my S13 and I came upon this thread. I think that I will go with what works and try a helical LSD like the fellas at Sport Compact Car. Here is a link to that portion of the project where they installed the unit and talked about the various reasons for their choice........

Hope that helps you out!!
