i have a 91 240 and what i was wondering is that there is this copper lookin tube that comes out of my stock down pipe and goes up and connects to some kind of hose and that tube broke some how and i need to replace it so does anyone know what it is called? so i can get another one and also do i even need that on there can i cap it off? but i need help please tell me!!! thanx...

Sounds to me like the EGR tube. It routes exhaust gases back to the EGR valve (exhaust gas recirculation valve). Emissions control device.

Well, the only tube-hose things connected to the exhaust manifold are the EGR tube which goes around the back of the engine or the AIV which connects to a black plastic box right next to your stock air filter.

I personally wouldn't block off the EGR tube, but I have an aftermarket intake and header so I have the AIV removed from my car. I plugged a hole on my intake, the hole in the header and capped two vacuum lines.

I believe the sole purpose of the AIV on the earlier KA24DE engines was to dump fresh air in to the exhaust to make the cat more efficient on cold starts.

Yes, i also think he is talking about the PAIR valve (refered to as the AIV by bad mojo, which is the more common name, as opposed to the nissan name of "pulsed air intake recirculation valve").

you really dont need this, and it wont really help you pass emissions if your car is already warmed up. two vac lines run to a solenoid to the PAIR, as well as the large black box and two large lines for intake air. i dont know how useful this info is to you, a picture is worth a thousand words
