I just joined, but I've been on this site for the past two months doing some homework (heres my little boring *** life story) I have always wanted a skyline yadah yadah yadah. i purchased a 92 s13, never liked sr20 because i think they are way over rated and honestly not that power friendly. KA-T, well thats another story F that...rb26 lol im not 15 years old and don't have a lot of money. rb20, not really interest me, so rb25 was my goal. I have always had a thing for the neo, suer its considered more envormetaly friendly and all, not all have the fixed oil pump problem and the traction control thing. But personally i want a newer engine and lower mileage (or kilometers) hopefully and slight power increase, i don't mined forking over a little more cash for the neo. after a few weeks searching and on the verge of picking up an r33 SII rb25, i found a good deal on a NEO rb25 with mickinney mounts. im picking it up next week.

Ive seached this site for info and other sites such as skylines australia and hybridz, but i still have a lot of questions about the NEO. my goal is 400rwhp daily driver and 1/4, not drifting. i cant drift. i fail.

People say that SI SII and Neo blocks are identical, im planing on changing to the N1 water pump and a new oil pump (don't ask why in just ganna do it), they should bolt up to the neo as well right? because when i read about the pumps they only state about SI/SII and nothing mentioning the r34 rb25,

same goes for greddy timing belt. same right?

also i would like to purchase the complete OEM gasket kit, again only states for SI and SII on websites

And the last one im confused as well, the greddy intake manifold a few people on skylines australia said the they do NOT fit the neo at all while others say its just some wires that need to be modified but the manifold bolts right up.

thats about it for now, cooling is an issue for me since i live in California, im going to install a power steering cooler along with a oil cooler, im planing on keeping my s13 stock hood so no vents for me. Im not going to do my own wiring because i just don't want to mess with it, ill leave it to the pros, everything else im on my own.

i have a lot of inspiration on this site, people such as:

Carl HDariusrb25draglucky7cdorhout just to name a few

Im not trying to suck-up or anything but u guys really know ur ****...and have bad *** cars that inspire me to stick with my RB plan and not move on to the EVO or STi craze....i already owned an 05 wrx...done that move on lol, i know what im getting in, parts are scares and expensive and so one, but im ganna try my best and not do a half *** swap.

let me know wats up guys ill keep u posted and post some pics later on with progress on my beloved bucket

-Andre

All RB25 engine blocks are casted the same so your fine there. Just a difference of internals.

N1 Oil Pumps and Water Pumps will bolt on no problem.

The RB25 Gasket set will do you just fine besides various gaskets such as the throttle body gasket and a few misc other. But the main gaskets will work such as the valve cover gaskets and the manifold gaskets.

The greddy timing belt can be used for all RB25 engines as well as the 20 and 26.

The greddy intake manifold will bolt on no problem to the Neo but the flange for the IACV is different between the NEO and the R33 models so some modding must be done.

S14-NEO who just posted above me, has figured out how to make the greddy plenum work easily on the NEO.

I was considering the NEO as well but i kind of decided against it for a few reasons.

-If youre planning on running the stock ecu for awhile you had better make damn sure that your engine swap package has a MAF included because theyre almost impossible to find.

-Failing that, Im not sure which standalone options there are for the neo (mods/pros, does the power FC/ems/emanage work?), but that would be increasing the price of your already expensive swap. Actually this leads me to a question for Carl H: I know the normal rb25 ECUs can't be rom tuned, but do you know if the neo ecu will accept a rom tune or not?

-Unless you want to run the pull-type clutch style you will have to do the pull to push conversion. Not that it looks very hard to do, but its something to consider because pull type clutches are more expensive than 300zx NA ones .

However, if you are going for big power, i think there was a thread a few days ago showing neo rods to be almost identical to rb26 rods. Also the neo head has solid lifters but unless you plan to rev way past 7.5K hyrdraulic lifters should be fine... But i think theres rumor of the pistons being a little stronger too.

Actually now that i have it all laid out on paper the neo seems like it might be a nice option .

ya poor s-14 only like 3 people on Nico have one that i know of poor guy . the neo isnt a bad choice if i were to do one from scratch and not buy one id prob still get a neo. every problem from the s1,2 and 3"neo" are in all of them **** turbo, crank snout, and ring lands"top ring". but i think the pro's out way the cons bigger exhaust turbo housing, soild lifters, 1/10 lower emission's, lower miles, rb26 rods, and the covetied neo cover. some small things like the pull style clutch some thing it is not worth it a pull style has a better engagement then a push and lets face it when you but a rb the hole money thing really doesn't matter anymore it is all expensive and remember as for most car parts you get what you pay for. the cooling issue if it is done right you wont have a problem. ie a good fan setup, having cooling panels on the top and bottom of the rad and sides, make sure the cooling system is filled properly no air traped in the system, a good radiator my oem ka works just fine. as for the piston ive heard they are better and ive heard they are the same as the s1,2 rb25s non were from Nissan so idk. oh and ya i know my grammer and punctuation sucks.

the thing is that, S14-NEO/Mark has been there before anyone else. Thus gives him the edge to say what he says.

well did you buy it already done or did you build it yourself...typically if any RB is in stock form they are much trouble till you start trying to extract triple the hp out of them

thanx man, im putting the neo into an s13 not s14, but almost same engine bay, my question is, do u have an suggestions or things to avoid or something in that area while doing the swap? like things to replace, or watch for, wat parts to use, i mean little things that might not be noticeable at first or not pay attention to, later to scram "AWWW FAWK!!!!"

thanx, a lot man, looking forward on being a new neo owner soon

the neo package that im going (hopefully) to pick up, it comes with an r33 rb25 transmission....when refering to pull style and push style, is that inside the transmission, were the cluch is beeing controlled or dose that refer to the salve cylinder, no problems should come up with the r33 transmission right?

just take your time and dont rush..check and recheck everything before you power up just to make sure you dont fry stuff.

no you should be ok but in the event that the NEO did in fact come with a NEO style clutch you will most def have to go with a R33 style which is in fact a push style rather than a pull. and why would the NEO engine that your getting not come with a NEO trans...that seems kinda odd unless it was perhaps an auto orginally.

Its been a 2.5 month buildup so we'll see if it runs this weekend. It better is all i have to say.

Pull and push is just what it says, on push, the slave is pushing the fork, on pull, its pulling it. Just leave it how it is!

what type of CAS shaft drive do you have?

As well as the housing. I've seen S2 RB25's come with S1 CAS's before (most likely early s2 motors. So it depends totally on your cam and cas notching.

only late model r33 s2 engines have the r34 style cas, black cover is indiciative of a r34 cas.

All the Advice I have is Expect lots of Problems. Have patients and a nice Bill fold full of Green 1000$

Im sure most Rb's do not have the luck like mine. But if you bought the engine from a Idiot like I did, Then expect problems.

Its nice when running, but I have spent 2 years building and I have less than 1000 miles on the motor. Again mine is far from stock but I still in No way Consider it Reliable. But my garage has b/c its best friend.

Good luck on the build, Welcome to the RB club and have fun!!

You mentioned running the 1/4 mile. Are you planning on changing the Stock r200 differential?

a properly done swap will have zero issues, its just a motor in a different car, nothing strange there.we did a bpu'ed rb20 into a s14 a few years back and my buddy drove that car for 2years/50kmi and never had it break down or leave him stranded.
