After one week of ownership, I couldn't resist the start of performance mods. I know a few folks were inquiring about the Stillen air intake, and I have a few pics to share on that one (see link below). I can't really tell any "seat-of-the-pants" increase in power, but I believe the HP gains are up in the high RPMs...and I'm still trying to keep this thing under 4k RPMs until I get some miles on it. There's no real difference in intake noise with this intake - the filters are K&Ns.

Also traded out the stock Sport wheels for Enkei Racing Series wheels, RPO3s. They're lightweight (~20lbs each), and removes about 100lbs from the weight of the vehicle. I have some pics of those as well, and thought I'd share.

Next up - Stillen Stainless steel cat-back exhaust

I've always loved those wheels, looks great What sizes did you go with (widths, offsets, etc.)?

Thanks pensfan - I went with 8.5" in front, and 9.5" on the rear (vs. 9" factory on Sport wheels in the rear). Offset is 22 on both. There's plenty of room up front to clear the calipers (just over a finger's width, a little more than stock) and mondo room in the rear. Stuck with same 19" wheel diameter to at least burn through the set of stock rubber, but with the 9.5" on the rear, I think I can squeeze 275/35 back there, and keep overall wheel/tire diameter within 1/8" of stock. The challenge will be potential fender rub, as the 22 offset does seem to move the centerline out slightly....good for overall handling, but a challenge for bumping up tread width.

In my limited drive with these on...I do feel a little more road feedback, perhaps due to the light weight of these wheels, but it ain't much different.

How's the air intake helping the MPG?

Not that it's the reason to get it, but it helps the argument to have it done.

Does it violate the warranty?

I'm curious too about the mileage - my friend has a VQ35 series in his 02 or 03 Maxima - he told me to get K&N air filters for better mileage and a nicer sound? I heard it can hurt the MAF sensors with dirt & grime - anyone know?

I read that the facory offset is 43/45. How does a 22mm work. Or are my figures wrong?

Thanks for the info on the Stillen boxes.

I talked to Stillen about the exhaust and they are doing the R&D with no ETA yet.

looks great.

does the wheel replacement and intake upgrade void the warrant? I was thinking about doing both as well, but I'm leasing and am sort of limited in the modifications that I can do.

You are correct on the factory Sport wheels and the offsets. The lower the offset, the larger the distance between the lip of the wheel and the connecting hub. I went with +22 on the front and rear, which ends up lengthening the front track by 42mm (2 x 21) and the rear track by 46mm (2 x 23). This resulted in pushing the edge of the wheels/tires out by the same length (21mm on the front and 23mm on the rear), and to be honest, it looks a lot more aggressive from the back. I could have went with a +42 offset, but decided to opt for a wider track for improved handling, and for the off chance I'd ever put some honkin' Brembo brakes on some day.

verycomplex - I'm not sure about the warrantly, but I purchased the wheels from the dealer where I bought the car - could have worked into the deal when I bought the car, but did after. They did not mention anything about voiding the warrantly, so I'm not sure.

How did the deal at the dealership work with trading out the wheels? Did they credit you for the factory wheels? How much did you get the Enkei wheels for?

Hey Mod,

Any report on your MPG? What's the onboard computer saying, vs what you're experiencing? (manual calculation off the pump)

G37 Perfection - It appears that the price of all of my upgrades (wheels, intake, splash guards) where bundled into the price of the car - I thought it was broken out, but was mistaken.

Hey Onusgep,

I couldn't really do before and after compares since I put the air intake on the first tank of gas, but I do have 2 readings for mpg so far (all based on the onboard computer). First tank ended up to be 16mpg. Second tank ended up being 19mpg. I drive about 50% city (bumper-to-bumper traffic) and 50% freeway (70mph). I do expect the mpg to increase with some miles on it. I figure it I can get above 20mpg, I'll be happy, cuz it sure ain't a car to go light on the throttle

K&N filters only cause MAF issues when they are overoiled. There are other paper-style filters out on the market which actually have better flow and pick up smaller particles than the K&N's do.

My guess is that you have not had to test this yet, but do the new wheels still enable the low tire pressure warning to activate?

Not sure if it really matters that much.

Hope to have some new shoes of my own soon.

Modfever,

We may have purchased (mine's on order) from the same dealership. I'm also looking into trading the factory sport wheels (the 19" ones) for some Enkei's.

So my question is can you clarify what you were given for your stock rims? How much were the Enkei rims you choose (what did the dealer sell them to you for)?

Did you order the intake directly from Stillen, how much was it?

BTW, the car looks nice.

Do you know of any G car clubs in the area?

OMG37 - Congrats on the 37 on order - hope you won't have to wait too long! The list price for the Enkei RP03's were $540 for the fronts and $560 for the rears - i ended up with a single price for a bunch of stuff I had added like splash gaurds, tinting, intake, installation, tax and the wheels. I probably should have gotten everything broken out, but didn't. I'm pretty sure the you can get 10% off list price if you purchased your vehicle from them.

On the Stillen intake - I'm pretty sure the price is $399 purchased from the dealer, and installation is around $200 if you have them do it.

I did find a D/FW G35 club - MuchoMas posted on another thread - here's the URL: http://g35ownersclub.com/ownersclub.html

It's sponsered by Grubbs Infiniti - pretty cool site - I recently joined and am awaiting my membership info. Good news is it looks like membership gives you 10% off all parts and labor with your membership card (see Club Cards link on the home page). I hope to attend their next quarterly meeting - just not sure when it is.

Hope that helps....

Verycomplex - good question - the dealer told me the LTPW would work with the new shoes...but have yet to test. If I only had a nitrogen tank in my garage, I'd try deflating and testing that

Is there a performance difference comparing the stock 4-piston Infinity calipers as opposed to the aftermarket Brembos setup that makes you want to change them? I'd think the stock setup would be pretty damn good, as you already have Infinity 4-piston calipers.

Reading all these threads on this forum to help me decide which package(s) I want to get on my future G37 purchase, so your input is appreciated.
