A problem thats been plaguing a friend of mine lately.

SR20DET Red topbored 20 thousandths overCP pistons and new bearings.

Timing was off one tooth on the chain when he put the engine back together. It wouldnt hardly start unless gas was added and hiccupped in the intake. I took the oil pans off and the front timing cover and fixed it. He put the front timing cover back on and put F.I.P.G. where the FSM says "DO not apply silicone" It is right next to the O-ring that the oil pump uses to feed oil into the block, i didnt know it at the time, but i came over the next day and put on the lower oil pans with his help and then left.

He started the next day and said it ran for a few seconds and then started making a clacking/tinking sound in the head. Which it still makes right now, and the motor is hard to turn by hand in a few spots, and is very inconsistent.

I tried several different methods of trying to test the oil pump, and took it off and checked the specs of the pump and it was in tolerance for the most part, but he went ahead and ordered a new pump.

The new pump came in and we installed it the other night, and put the oil pick-up tube on and submerged it in oil, and filled the oil filter with oil, and cranked it by hand and it seemed all right. When cranked it for a little with no spark plugs in it to keep cranking speed up, and the valve cover off, and we werent getting a single drop of oil to the head.

Im wonder if i didnt prime the filter with enough oil or.... if something has gone awry, becuase i can push compressed air through the pick up tube and air comes out of everywhere, so i dont think it is clogged, but i cant figure out why the rest of the engine is not getting oil pressure or oil in general. I'm wanting to lean towards... the engine is ****ed, but im not so sure yet.

You should've packed the oil pump with a petroleum jelly, it helps in the priming of the oil pump. You can't expect the oil pump just to prime with it bone dry inside... Sure it'll do it, but I wouldn't be one to risk screwing my bearings trying to prime it.
