Post

I posted this in the MEGA CAM thread but didn't get any responses, so I am posting it here. Please give any help you can. Thanks

So I am taking my engine to the machine shop on Wednesday to have a rebuild done to it.While its at the shop, I'd like to get anything I can upgraded in order to make the engine more reliable and stronger. However, I do not know enough about how these things work in order to not gimp myself in the process.

At the moment its a blacktop SR20DET with a t25. I have a boost controller, FMIC, and an Mishimoto radiator. Thats about it. I want to upgrade all that I can within the price range of 3k or a tad bit more.

A friend of mine was really recommending that I go with 264s, rods, pistons, springs, etc. so that I do not have to open the head back up whenever I upgrade turbos. The only catch is I do not know when I will upgrade turbos. I have to upgrade fuel (i think?). I am running a walbro hi-flow fuel pump at the moment but have stock injectors.

From what I've read on here, it would be best to go with the stock cams and the t25 or even upgrade to the t28/equivalent for more HP but still seeing the best benefit of my setup.

I also wanted to get a tune from Enthralpy. How much would I be gimping myself I just did my setup to run 264 cams with the T25 and if the best decision is to go with stock cams, what else can I get done to the engine while its at the shop to maximize its potential, power, and reliability?

Thanks in advance!

PS. I've never driven a 300hp car. My goal at the moment is 300HP. I do want to go higher but I do not know how high is high enough for me at the moment. I guess I'll decide once I hit 300hp.

Shoot 400+ if you really want to give yourself the jitters each go around. Or buy a 1000cc streetbike. Both effective.

U dont need to build the block for 300 HP. To make 300HP,

Change headgasket, get rocker arm stoppersget 550cc injectorss15 t28z32 mafshould make around 300 with 15 lbs of boost.

Gonna need some sort of ECU reprogram for the maf and injectors. Enthalpy worked well for me. Though I have heard some people complaining that they lost theyre reprogram, but I never had a problem.

the thing is that the engine needs a rebuild. I had some valve/piston impact so I am taking it to the shop to get it freshened up. I figured while it was there I should have it built so I don't have to worry about it again in the future.

My friend is saying I am being an idiot for not getting 264 cams while its at the shop. He wants me to do that and BC pistons, rods, rings, springs, etc. and have it ported/polished along with angle job.

I'm fine with that but I don't want to negatively impact the performance by gimping myself with the cams and a lower end turbo such as the t25. I know the stock cams work best with the t25 and even the t28. However if its not THAT BIG of a deal, I wouldn't mind going with the 264 cams if it future-proofs me more, but I am inexperienced when it comes to setting up this kind of stuff so I wanted some input.

Cams are not that tough to do after the engine is put together. It wont hurt anything to run those cams with the stock turbo or the t28. Although they arent too complicated to change later either. They are right at the top of the engine. Definately do the pistons, rods, rings, and springs. Those parts are for added strength, cams are to add HP, not strength.
