So for a full background here goes! I bought my 92 300zx TT 5sp with 150400 miles, about 3 months ago, from a dealership (i owe lots on it still). I noticed a few problems which I should have researched before I bought the car but I was in the moment so I looked past them. The car was smoking from the left side by the battery up out the missing cowl piece. So I did research and most people said valve cover gaskets. Also no check engine light but I didnt run a diag before I tore the car down I'm a dummy!!!

So I tore into it and never really found the leak but it definitely looked like it had been leaking. While I was in there I replaced all the injector connectors, coil pack connectors, valve cover gaskets used bde aluminum exhaust cam plugs, iaa hoses, boost hoses, 2.25" dp and tp, and stillen filter and velocity stack. I also deleted the water hose on the underside of the plenum, prvr system, egr delete, pcv delete, and aiv delete. It doesn't smoke anymore. I put it all back together and I'm now having idling problems!! Dont worry I know what those are, I push on the broken IAA Connectors and it idles fine.

I have 3 codes throwing now which 2 of them I am worried about. Codes are 34 Detonation sensor circuit, 35 EGR, and 51 Injector circuit. Obviously 35 is from the egr delete. 34 I believe is the connector at top middle of engine is broke and doesn't click together? And 51... well I have some ideas, when I was installing everything I actually ripped a connector off the wire and had to re install new pins and stuff, and when I did I twisted the power wire of the connector to align it with the connector and it felt like the wires inside the coating were broken it was just way to easy to twist, but i tugged on it and it felt fine so I re installed it.... I also found my #5 cyl. injector, where the connector slides on was broke down below that piece I could see the crack... So I'm not sure if that could be it. I ordered both iaa connectors and a back up fuel injector connector with wiring so I can splice/solder/heat shrink it to make a better stronger connection.

After running mode I, I ran mode II. It confused the hell out of me, but i think i finally figured it out and well the results were kind of shocking, the car was at operating temp. and all parameters were met before counting the check engine light blinks and such, and well Im running almost identical numbers on both sides, Lean 3-4seconds, and Rich 12-14 seconds... But no smoke at all??!

Then I did compression check and found cylinders 1, 3, 4, and 5 were all 150, cyl 2 was 130 and cyl 6 was 128.

I haven't checked timing before (never done it) my step dad hopefully will give me a hand Tuesday with it.

It feels like I have lost power, even after I added tp's, dp's and single filter.

So all in all I'm just wondering what your thoughts are. This car is my DD so It cant be down for another 2 months... until I buy another vehicle. I dont make alot of money of which about 75% goes to bills. No way in hell am I taking it back to the dealership. I love my car.

EDIT: I found out that code 34 puts the car into safety boost, so I will definately be figuring this problem out asap! If I can get that egr out engine in/trans in i can sure as hell get that knock sensor haha! For now Im gonna try zip tying the connector together as hard as I can, as far as I know my car wasnt in safety boost before I started all this! I kept up with another 300zx tt that had catback and single pop... well he was a car or so ahead of me but mine was all stock.

All I have to say is wow! I decided to go check the circuit out. I feel like an absolute moron. I should of checked it earlier or maybe perhaps when I was putting it all back together f*** my life. Somehow (odds are it was me) the black wire got broke clean off at the connector! Looks like I'm getting a new sub harness!

Once I replace this stuff I will give an update on how its running, still any advice would be appreciated!
Now to find a guide on the easiest way to get this sob!

IF you have the time and money (and the patience, a lot of patience) replace the entire EFI harness, its a bit of a pain but well worth it as you will keep coming across toasted connections, once you start getting more intimate with the car you'll see that everything is melted or fried after 20 years of Z goodness.

yea im experiencing that, i think for now i'm gonna use z1's bypass plug, then I will attempt to tackle the efi harness engine in ugh ive heard its do able and a few people have done it, you just have to pull the dash i guess... haha... well damn! i was planning on it, just waiting for the right time, and of course funds!

Thanks!! :ohno:

Don't have to pull the dash, just have to pull some things out from underneath the dash. the hardest part is either having to de-pin the 2nd connection (there are 2 on the cabin end of the harness) or stretching the hole in the firewall. all in all someone that knows what they are doing should be able to do it a day maybe two hood close to hood close.

so for an update!! I love updates!!! Especially when there good!!!!!! I replaced my iac valve and fast idle connectors with oem's from z1, beautiful idle (thank god my homemade iaa gasket is holding up :chuckle: ). I started messing with my injectors trying to figure that s*** out, I found that now 2 of my injectors are cracked around the top where the connector clips on, ugh. But! I was sticking a screw driver on them listening to them pulse and they all kept sounding good, kept goin at it for like 15 mins (my ear hurts) and finally i realized my cyl. #4 connector wires had started to pull out and I finished em off ;) so luckily i had ordered a new connector with wires, instead of repining them, soldered that bad boy on and shes running like a raped ape! Im still very surprised its in safety boost it feels so damn powerful, but after driving it today i realized its been in safety boost since day 1. Can't wait for tomorrow!! Get my new knock sensor/subharness time for relocate and to feel some even better power!!!!

and my 235 tires on the rear ain't gonna cut it..... stupid people puttin 18's on cars that are way too thin :(

badabababaaa IM LOVIN IT!!!!!!
