I found a nice 1991 300zx for sale by me. It has 130,000 miles on it but the motor has been rebuilt at 100,000. He said he had a compression check down and the lowest it punched was 180 and the highest was 200 (he said the guy who rebuilt it shaved the heads alittle for some more compression). Also what kind of compression would that be if its that high with 30k on the new motor?

Here are some pictures (I dont like the wing on there, I would take it off and sell it and get a smaller spoiler for it)

He wants $4200 for it, is it worth it?

Then what are mods for NA 300z's? Track times? Cheaper to mod then the TT motor? How relaible are they? anything the 300zx's are known to do or break? etc..

Any help is appreciated.

Hey,Welcome to Nico!

I'll let some of the z32 people on here answer most of your questions because they know much more about the 91-96 300zx than I do.

There is a N/A 300zx that goes to all the auto x events in my region and he does quite well with the car. He has a bunch of mods on it.

I like the stripes and hate the wing.

Good Luck!;)

the compression is HIGH for a NA. The mods are few but easier to work on than a TT. Headers , Intake and chip are the top of the list on mods. Depending on the interior and other things like the transmission, paint etc. The price isn't out of line IF it's in GREAT shape taking into account everythng engine, interior, paint, transmission. If there is a problem anywhere the price would be lower.

havent seen the interior of it yet, but from what he says its really nice. He said transmission is good and the clutch was done along with the engine at 100k. Only thing is there is a dent on a rocker panel and it would need replacing, I was thinking about offering him $4000 for it.

And what would that dyno with a intake, that high compression, headers with a catback, and a chip? maybe 270?

glad you are getting rid of the wing. the spoiler in the last pic is one of my fav spoiler for the z32. that is really high compression. even for an n/a z. i paid $6200 for mine and it had 130k miles on it. so i say definitely go for it, even if you have to pay 4200.

the vg, if you take care of it, will last up to 200k miles. and also, if you take care of it, they are really reliable. mods are cheaper than tt mods, but there aren't as many and you don't see as big as hp gains. for a stock 300zx n/a, the 1/4 mile will be in about the low 15s.

i am happy with my n/a motor. granted its quite a bit different than stock. ive never had the chance to run a tt z32, but ive outrun a 3kgt vr4 and a 350z no problem. i like the fact that nobody else that ive run into had a n/a thats really built like mine. id say go for it if its nice.

and yeah that wing is kinda over the top.
