Here's the rundown of the issue and what I have figured out so far--
All of a sudden one day I was driving, and as I started to let the clutch out from a dead stop, the car started bucking HARD. Felt like the wheel-hop except I was going about 5mph. I shift to second and the transition is smooth as normal. Likewise is 3rd. I get to 4th gear and when I let off the gas, the transmission goes back into neutral. If I hold it in 4th when I let off the gas, it will stay there. Ok, so now I come to a stop once again. It's now difficult to get it into 1st gear (but it does go in). Let the clutch out, and the same jerking effect is there. Something to note-- when I depress the clutch, it "sounds" like the clutch disk is still making contact with the flywheel/pressure plate. At this point, I am convinced the transmission is just plain broken so I park the car.
Fast forward to last week. I go out to peruse the engine bay and maybe do a little cleaning. As I am looking around the transmission bellhousing, I notice that all but ONE of my transmission bolts are missing! The only one still holding the transmission to the block is the small one that sits below the starter. Now I am thinking that the transmission is seperating itself from the block when I depress the clutch and that is what is giving me my problems. I've got a set of transmission bolts on the way, and I have a spare transmission sitting here on stand-by.
For the record, the clutch is a Centerforce Dual Friction and has less than 400 miles on it. Flywheel was resurfaced at the time it was installed. I am using a KA transmission on a CA18 bellhousing. The KA transmission was with my KA motor that I removed and never gave me an issue before the swap. The dust shield was installed. Slave cylinder is fairly new. I noticed a little clutch fluid around the rubber boot for the clutch pedal in the car though.
Can someone please shed some light on this for me and tell me whether I am on the right track or not? Or can anyone pinpoint the cause just by the novel I wrote? TIA!
