ok so I know there are a few different brands of lifters out there but which would be recomended?

I had been looking into a set of the tomei's but is it really nesicary to buy the test shim/guide kit, is there not away to just measure and individually buy the exact sizes of shims you need Im just a bit fuzzy on the whole process.

and one last thing could someone clesr up the whole dispute over whether you do or do not need solid cams with the solid lifters.

I have the tomei lifters. i like the design. since the shimming is done on the valve, theres less chance of needing reshimmed since the valve spring acts as a cushion. You dont need the test shim kit as long as you can find the exact thickness of your stock shims. You can use that thickness to find the size of the new shims needed.

You do not need solid cams for solid lifters. Hydraulic cams work fine. The difference between Solid and Hydraulic is the solid cams have a more aggressive ramp on the lobe which a hydraulic lifter cant keep up with. At least thats what ive been told.

Whats up EJ I would recomend the tomei's by personal preference mainly because the lifters are all the same size. What I mean is you have to adjust the shim size for clearance where as the Jun auto lifters you actually adjust clearance by the lifter itself, although not to sure about the hks ones though. You could order each shim separately but if you make the slightest mistake in measuring you would have to wait for the correct size to come in.And in the case of using solid cams YES you do have to as the clearances are different between the cams and they wear differently.

The clearances are measured at the valve which are done by the shims. Not by the cams. Depending what duration and lift, the cam will require new shims to be used for the correct valve clearances.

Sorry my wording was confusing. but the clearances specs are differnet between the solid and hydraulic cams and i mean by shim sizing .And the different cams wear differently, also when switching to solids it is highly suggested to replace your rocker arms with new ones.

well as far as cam selection goes Im wanting to go with a 264in / 272ex crower setup with the crower single valve springs, this should be good to around 8500-9k ya think? via a 57 trim .63ar hampster wheel, oh and around how much rwhp should I expect my nismo 555cc's to get me before they go static?

Im wanting to shoot for right at 400rwhp and I do have some modded wrx 880's but they are top feed and Im not sure if a top feed rail will work with my notch top every rail I find says s13 sr20 in the description, has anyone ever heard of using top feed subi injectors before or if they'd work?sorry for the newbish questions Im jus new to the nissan s14 world so I have lots of questions, thanks in advance

If you have a top feed rail then the subie injectors should work fine. The only thing is that i think the subie 880cc are low impedence and the SR/KAECU is setup to run high impedence. But it's not that bad of a fix. Take a multimeter to both your stock and aftermarket injectors and buy some resistors that equal the difference and booya you got a low impedence injector running on a high impedence signal.
