Just a question for you guys running solid lifters, did you have to modify the inside of the rocker cover to clear the lock nuts from scraping? On my intake side on my test head ONE locking nut just fouls against the cover.

yeah, i checked this out after you gave me all the info on the conversion. They do come close and hit, some people mod the inside of valve cover. What i did, with the parts you and me know about, is grind the tops of the threaded adjusters down, and make my own flat tip adjustment screw top. I checked them before and after with clay and it did the trick, and took off some useless weight at the same time. So in the end, my conversion is no taller than stock lifter. Ill try to dig up the pics i had of them

Heres what my finished product looks like, no taller than stock, you have to scroll down a bit solid lifter post

Good work mate, i ended up doing the same thing, cutting the screw down by 6mm and cutting a slot for a screwdriver on top.Mine still aren't in the car yet, as i'm finishing mine and a mate's set for his KA24E.Did you notice that it's not as easy as it looks to thread dead straight through the lifter bore so the ball end touches the centre of the valve stem? I have a couple that are off a bit, but should cause no problem hopefully as both cars are using std valvesprings.Modding the valve cover is going to be the way to go unfortunately...unless i can find smaller outer diameter locking nuts, but that's very doubtful. If you want devious, email me the links for the pics you've got.

the pics are in that link i posted above, i edited it so you may not have seen. Want to know a really handy tool when building jigs to do the conversion, a 22mm piston pin ( i used a couple from toyota 22r) these fit the inside of the rocker bore very nicely. i built up my jigs using a couple small precision vices, the piston pins, and some washers for spacers. merely clamping the rocker on the sides, in combination with a v-block, i was able to hold it very tightly when power-tapping (probably the biggest problem with getting the threads super straight). Btw a reamer works much better than a drill bit for the initial boring of the part.

I have got the process down pretty well and my last few sets (i have made up about 6 or 7 sets) have come out very very nice and straight.

Slight offset of the lifter isnt to big of a deal unless it starts to walk off the valve, you want the valve stem to spin anyway.

Excellent work. Do you have any pics of the jigs? I tapped all mine by hand....damn it was hard work. Only a few were slightly askew, and since the tip of the valve stem is very tough, i believe the ball on the end of the screw would wear before the valve stem. Thanks for the tip about reaming the holes, i'll give that a go on my next set i do.Also....power tapping, how'd you manage that? did you use a CNC mill?
