I've got a 96 truck with a just rebuilt engine. I can get lifters for $255 plus shipping.

My questions are

How do they affect gas mileage in the 2-2.7k range.

How differently will the truck run?

I'm not really interested in turning 7k . I just want my truck to run and not have anymore problems. I don't mind adjusting the lash. I like driving hard but I have to be realistic If its going to kill the mileage or make it a dog down low I don't need it. what should I do?

the cams must be for solid lifters. solid lifters wont work with a hydraulic lifter cam.

solid lifters will work fine with stock or high lift cam. They arent going to change mileage and your truck wont run much differently unless your original lifters were shot. You may have to set the lash a little tight to prevent lifter noise (which is present on all solid lifter engines). You are going to have to set the lash a couple times to get it set properly.

Cams can be ground to take advantage of the conversion (the ramp up profile can be a bit more aggressive). Thats about it

well, if the lifters were meant for the stock cams, then yeah.

just have to take into consideration what base circle the lifters were meant for.

J30t I thought the same thing about the cam grind at first. But its not the case. The KA has a rocker arm with a hydraulic lash adjuster, over the valve, thats prone to failure. I assume that I'll have to adjust them in a similar manner to my old e16 pulsar. Doing a solid lifter conversion will assure full valve 100% of the time.

Devious, Thanks for the advice. Where should I go for the conversion. I know realnissan sells them and there's a guy on here named turbotulsa(i think). I'll probly do this instead of buying new hla's.

BTW I idled her for about 25min with no change still spongy. I only replaced one bad lifter the rest were hard. The bad one was completely flat. I got a spongy one used and tried it but it never pumped up. And I didn't want to pound something and ruin it.

I am 99% sure this isn't going to help you, but if you took off both rocker arm assemblies, when you changed the bad lifter, did you make sure to put the exhaust rocker arms with the exhaust rocker arm rail, and visa versa? I made this mistake the first time I messed around with my E head so the oil ports didn't line up w/ the rocker arms so the lifters could never get stiff.

sorry if i made you look stupid, but it might help,DbD
