I am doing a swap :D, so I am installing a 255 walbro pump and you need to solder in the power wires. What should i use to cover them up as these are going to be in the gas tank and i dont necessarily want a spark in my gas tank. What did everyone use?

I didn't solder, I used the supplied butt splices to connect the wires.

You're supposed to use butt connectors.

FYI, gasoline does not conduct electricity. I used the crimp connectors that came with my walbro and dropped it back in the tank.

For you guys that soldered...did u cover it up w/ anything or do u just have the bare wire/solder sitting in the tank?

I tried soldering mine and the fuel pump fuse kept blowing. Put the crimps on and no problems. Dunno what's up with that.

My theory, when in the tank, the gasoline dissolved the adhesive on your electrical tape, causing it to short. Very dangerous, considering the sparks are happening inside your gas tank.

NismoFreak knows I solder everything and I religiously use shrink tubing. I use transparent shrink tubing when I have a choice because it allows me to inspect the joint without unwrapping anything. It's the only way to fly at $1.80 per 4ft stick

No, I did not cover the connections after soldering. Left them bare ***. There are no sparks "flying around" in the gas tank.

funny thing is that I used heat shrink tubing too. I always solder my connections but was told that I should try crimping when the soldering didn't work. It's not like I don't know how to solder but dunno just found it strange that it'd work one way and not the other for my case.

whatever works for you. crimping is not really bad. its just that some of us are anal about electrical connections.
