After 2 years of owning my z32 2+2 I let her go last night. I still have my drift ready twin turbo so I'll still be around here.
BUT I need a car to drive now and I have about $4000 bucks to either buy or put a down payment on something!

So what is it you guys drive out there, that is dependable and comfy, yet sporty in your eyes! If you don't mind putting about how much you can get one for either.
It does NOT have to be a Nissan, I would prefer it be rear wheel drive and at least have the option of a manual gearbox!

:bigthumb: Thanks in advance everyone !!!!!

First three that came to mind...

1. BMW 3-Series
2. Miata
3. Mustang

EDIT: Just saw this on Autotrader, you should rescue it. Not worth what they want, and judging from the wing (not to mention the Z badge on the bumper) there's probably some work to be done to it.

You didn;t specify whether you want a sedan or sports car

Sedan:
03-04 Infiniti G35: fits all your criteria. prices vary a lot depend on condition/mileage. $4K would be a downpayment, but not a big number to finance.
BMW 3 series: fit your criteria, but much more expensive to repair.

if you're willing to include FWD:
Acura TSX: fits all your criteria except RWD. figure an earlier model like '04-05' comfortable, reliable, nimble cars. I bought an '08 with an automatic for my wife last year, but they came with manuals too. very nice DD

Sports car:
old Miata: fits your criteria assuming you can fit in it
C4 corvette. Fits your criteria except reliability, but big performance for very little money, and fun to drive.

Tyler atleast you will still be sticking around! :)

I suggest the G35 it seems like a great DD fun to drive but the only thing is that you might catch yourself start modding it haha. If you started modding the G then it would take away avalible money for the Z.

I've been mulling over car options for a while as I'm thinking about getting another motor vehicle, and those seem to be the only two constants.

i've actually looked into all of those hahaha
seems we all have good taste ;D

I drove a 5 speed is300 yesterday, and loved it.
so smooth and comfy, yet very spacious surprisingly !!
I am going to talk to em Tuesday about seeing what they can do for me.

It's an 04 with 105,xxx complete papers and work recorded. All done by toyota!

For 10,500. Im gonna talk him down to 9,400 if possible that way my 3k down payment will make my payments around 250ish for 2 years!

Any more suggestions ?

Look at a 350z. VQ35 is quite reliable.

For four grand I'd be all over a 5-speed Maxima.

That's WAY high, in excess of dealer retail for that car. $9k is within reason, $9500 if its super super super mint.

I worry about any Illinois cars as they may have spent time in Chicago where rust is a real [and sometimes hidden] concern.

It may seem silly, but also think about timing belt vs timing chain. If you're looking at 2 cars (1 - belt, 1 - chain) figure in the cost of replacing the belt (by a shop) in your "purchase price" unless they have documented proof ... it's a good negotiating tool. Though some will say "it's a maintenance item, just like an oil change" ... such BS.

If you're thinking 4 door
I like the IS300, but they're over-priced.
I like the G35 Sedan with stick, can be difficult to find without a ton of miles.
I like the 2002-2003 Maxima with a stick, can be difficult to find without a ton of miles.
I like the Mazdaspeed6, if you'll accept AWD.
Check out Audi allroad 2.7T w/ the 6spd ... you'll be surprised.

To high^^^ I agree with jesda they should be around $9,500 for the 5spd option.

isnt the allroad the one with the super-unreliable v6?

that IS is WAAAAAAY overpriced for what it is, its worth 9k tops, you can give me the whole "oh its a 5spd, its sooo rare" bs but the W55 trans in that car is junk. If your looking for one you can find autos for cheap and have fun with the manual buttons on the steering wheel.

why not look into a legacy/Legacy GT, both come with 5spds as an option and are both in your price range?

Oh, it has issues, but it's a fairly stable engine once a few things are sorted out (SAI, etc). The more issue prone aspect is the AT/TC in the 2.7T. Some will complain about the pneumatic suspension, but it's not much different it costs as replacing factory shocks/springs w/ factory parts. Of course, if left unattended it can increase the repair costs due to adverse effects on other components (compressor). There is additional functionality, so it's reasonable to expect additional costs, though if not needed, it could seem excessive.

im starting to dig the speed3 turbo hatch backs also!
I am honestly thinking about saving up my cash until the ft-86 comes out.
I called an talked to Toyota scion of hickory NC yesterday.
They told me if I was serious they could put me in a pre-order free of charge.
I would even be able to pick my options. most I'd pay is 27,000 out the door apparently .
They are starting a new "What you see on the sticker is what you pay for everything" kinda deal. Im just scared because I don't like buying a new car the first year for un-for seen problems :/

What issues have the g35 guys ran into while owning your cars?
I'm digging the idea a black or blue g35 S :bigthumb:
Any grind with the 4th gear on the vq model transmission?

I love the Mazdaspeed3's but they have A LOT of torque steer and if you run them too hard, they like to crack pistons.

The G35's are a solid choice and are usually pretty reliable overall.

Have you considered a first gen Cadillac CTS-V? With the kind of money you're talking, you can get one for around $17k or less and they come with a 6spd manual and a V8. Loads of fun for very little money and still get to have a classy and comfortable vehicle too.

I love cts-v's but around here that price doesn't pertain.
For some reason old people love cts-v's around here, and their value never really comes under 20k :( </3

I found a black one for 17k but he sold it 2 days ago :/

Well another thing along those lines to consider is an 04-06 Pontiac GTO. It's a 2dr, but same combination at the CTS-V and they're pretty roomy inside too. A friend of mine has an 04 6spd and I absolutely love the thing. He gets 25mpg hwy out of the thing too, which is pretty nice considering it's a 350-400hp(depending on year) sports car.
