I was just wondering how much of a difference the 15 extra hp of the DOHC s13s makes. Like what is that a tenth of a sec in the 1/4? I'm aware there are other differences in the engine, but that is the main one. Are there any advantages to the SOHC? I'm just trying to convice myself that getting a 90 isn't a bad thing. On the other hand you can invest a good $1k in mods for 15hp(i/h/e). I'd like to just do a swap somewhere down the line anyways, but I know everyone says that and I don't really know whats in store for me in the future.

I was thinking about swapping a dohc into my car, but after I sat down and thought about everything I would have to do, I decided against it.

one advantage to the sohc is that it's cheaper for a new camshaft, seeing as you only have to get 1.

the sohc motor will prolly never be able to reach the same power levels just becuz of its lack of high end ability. i have raced 2 dohc motors and i lost to one and beat the other, it really depends on the driver. the 15 or so hp increase is good for about nothing, so its really not much of a diff, just buy whatever comes ur way

I've driven bothj and stcok for stock I feel it is a pointless comparison. Both respond about the same. Keep in mind I am saying stock for stock. :batman

http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....d=130If you haven't already checked out the KA engine forum, I suggest you do. Right now the engine forums can be found by clicking on the "Forum" button, you will find all engine forums near the bottom of that page.

not much difference at all. i would rather prefer the dohc with extra valves and an extra cam. but look at it like this...theybot have pros and cons. the sohc is cheaper by 10% and the dohc is newer. it really makes no difference at all in that way. also they are both easy to find stock parts for. the dohc has more potential to reach higher power goals while the sohc is better for lower power goals or a swap. umm the dohc slightly has more aftermarket support but not much difference. it all just depends with what u want. if u want to swap a motor, want to spend slightly less or want low power goals then go sohc. if u want to mod the ka for higher power goals and want a newer motor with lower miles usually go with the dohc. choice is up to you. or what u could always do is get a sohc and swap in a much newer dohc later if u want. either way is a good way.

Well, one difference I can think of is cams....more for the E the DE at the moment. Big power equals boost in just about everybodys book nowadays. Not to many right now for the E, but I'm developing one at at the same time as the DE. Internals are basically the same...the valvetrain is slightly impared. But depending on what your goals are the E can be a very good performer. I'd take a boosted KA24E over the SR20 any day.

no post jacking infamous

I think the 89-90 cars look better, The sohc isnt that bad and seems to be very reliable. I have had nothing go wrong and i beat on mine and it has 150k. The price difference is usually big enough that a e would be the way to go. If your planning swap i would start a fund and just keep adding until you have it. peope waste alot of money on things that will be replaced by the swap

I prefer the SOHC. No real reason, I just like the feel.

I don't know whether or not a sohc lasts longer, you have to realize that the dohc wasn't manufactured during the same time frame (89-90 vs. 91-98) so you can't compared the reliability statistics. I have never seen a SOHC powered 240sx run anything in the 16's, stock or not, but yet I haven't seen many 240's run altogether. I'm a fan of the DOHC, since that's what I have in my altima.

my auto hit a 17.1 with my heavy rims so a 5 speed should hit lower
