sohc vs dohc

i always wondering what are pros and cons of having a sohc vs a dohc is dohc more powerful engine? better on gas mileage? just wondering. figured someone here would know.

Generally DOHC means at least 4 valves / cylinder ... as opposed to SOHC having 2 or 3 ...

Some SOHC have 4 valves / cylinder however ... and then the difference in power is not as great ...

More valves, more air, more hp ...

Also, having DOHC means you can adjust both inlet and exhaust cams seperately for the best result ...

I think it just gives the engineers more control over the airflow of the engine sinse they can tune the exhaust and intake ports seperatly
