im getting an s14 ka from a friend.

apparently i need a valve cover because it currently has a fwd cover (didn't know there was a difference? )

anywayy,i searched and found that the sohc transmission will mate up just fine but i've had a few people tell me that i need to replace the flywheel and clutch.

didn't find any info on this but it makes sense to me that the clutch and flywheel i have should work just fine, correct?

i need the ecu which im getting, as well as a harness for the swap.

pretty sure i also need an intake manifold from an s13 dohc?go ahead and flaaame, to lazy to open a new tab to make sure lol

my question is,if my clutch and flywheel are in pretty good shape, can i just use those?should i get a new clutch and resurface the flywheel?will a dohc clutch fit and work properly in a sohc transmission?

what else would i need to change in order for this swap to work?

thanks for any help guysand sorry for any newbness

if it is a s14 engine which i would be weird to have a fwd valve cover. then you will need a few things. s13 lower intake mani, s13 exhaust, s13 dohc dizzy, s13 coil, s13 dohc afm, s13 dohc ecu, s13 dohc engine harness (swap plug with single harness). i think that is it for the swap. i dont know about the fwd clutch but im sure you could look up the part numbers... lazy.... if its an s14 then the clutch will be fine if its in good condition.

it just has a fwd valve cover mocked up to cover.he sold it away, felt that my money would be better off going to an sr swap later on,and to take some pressure off me of having to search for parts.

thanks anyway

Buy new clutch and resurface the flywheel. you don't know what kind of condition the clutch is in and you really cant tell by just looking at it. You'll also need a maf too. Make sure that you get a harness for s14 if you get an s14 motor. the clips are different

ya no. you cant run an s14 harness in an s13 chassis. none of it will match up. if he does like i said then it will work. i have done the conversion before. plus he isnt even doing it anymore. and i already stated that he needs an afm (aka maf)

what? Your telling me you can't put an s14 harness in the s13 chassis? Why not?

that is correct you are not able to put an s14 harness into an s13 chassis without major modification to the harness. i will just list the differences between where the harnesses attach to the car.

s13/s14:the s14 engine harness has a different plug for the lower trans harness, the trans harness has different plugs (depends on year) and those go to the main front harness/fuse box. the s14 harness is different for many other things too, such as the ecu plug is totally different, and the plug that goes to the gauges and interior stuff. all that is different.

please dont post info that you are not positive on. we dont need people buying the wrong parts and getting mad.

Well its been done. Quite easily actually. A couple of my friends have s14 motors in their s13 chassis using the harness.

its pretty easy, i just finished putting a 95 KA into my 89 coupe, all u need is S13 power steering lines, resv, and pump, S13 upper harness, coil, distributor, ECU, and tach, all s13 a/c stuff, S13 maf, and thats about it, i ran the 95 intake manifold no problem, all u need to change is the tps from s14 to s13 and the headers from s14 to s13, u will have one extra knock sensor left over which u can leave unplugged, i left out almost all the emissions stuff except the EGR and i passed emissions just fine
