Issue: Putting a dohc harness with my dohc motor into my sohc chassis, but some stuff doesn't line up..

Reason for using dohc harness:I got a sohc shell for free...turns out it was free for a reason...it had an SR swap, so the harness had been modified, but to add to that the harness was just cut to s*** in random spots, loose wires everywhere, etc...So I decided to buy another chassis harness, but the only one I could find was dohc and it was cheap so I hopped on it. Well I've already got my dohc motor in, dohc engine harness, and I put the dohc chassis harness that wraps around the radiator support and today I decided to start on the harness under the dash.

The harness area that I bought is pretty much the wiring that goes from the fuse box by the driver's side kick panel to the ignition, climate control and all the way to the brown plug that goes to the large blue ecu plug. Everything lined up okay, but the sohc harness had wiring going to the door, whereas my dohc harness did not. This is a base model sohc chassis btw. (No power anything except speakers in the door). So from that I assume the wiring harness I got that's dohc doesn't have speaker wiring??

Also there are is one plug I don't have on my dohc harness. On the old harness there's the 2 plugs and a little DOT black relay thing that goes behind the steering wheel. One of the plugs has red wires, the other has blue or green wires..anyways on the DOHC harness I have the DOT relay and the plug with the red wires, BUT the other plug has baby blue wires and the plug is different than the one I have on my sohc harness...should I just cut and solder on the sohc clip to the dohc harness?

Can anyone point me to someone who has put dohc wiring into there car?

I really don't have the electrical smarts to figure out every wire that was cut and how to fix that...on top of that I've already got all dohc wiring from the firewall forward now..

The harness your talking about behind the steering column is it for behind the dash for the gauge cluster? IF it is the harness for the gauge cluster and if your sohc had a digital speedometer then the connectors will be different. The digital cluster and the analog cluster had different wiring and the dohc harness will probably have the analog sub harness on it but that is assuming that were talking about the same harness.

As for everything else sorry but the cluster sub harness is the only wiring I've messed with on my car and i cant help you with anything else.

Pics, of the black DOT relay with the 2 plugs...notice the sohc one has the blue plug which is similar to the red plug, whereas the dohc harness has a red plug then a plug that is nothing like it.SOHC:DOHC:

And when I meant behind the steering wheel, I meant like right above where the steering shaft goes through the firewall..underneath the metal bar that the dash goes over...I guess?

Hmm and while on topic, here's the picture of the harness that goes to the door with the sohc, but not with the dohc:

Plug on sohc harness:

Where it plugs into, leading into the passenger side door:

And I'm going to add...where the sohc harness comes out around the climate control there's extra wires in my mess of cut wires. I think they're for the radio..but there's like 15 of them, whereas with the dohc harness I think there's around 8 going into 2 plugs. Also the dohc harness has a blue relay with it...no idea where this is from..It has some thicker solid pink and solid black wiring going to it..

SOHC:

DOHC: (Note: the 2 longer plugs are hooked into the climate control already)

So yeah...any help would be awesome.

ok so im headed out to the boneyard im gonna look at those harnesses for you but just to ask. was your car originally an auto or stick? how about the donor harness? will it be auto or manual when your done?

It was a shell with an SR in it so I don't know what it was originally. The harness the guy told me was from a dohc s13 manual..and I'm going to be running the 5 speed as well. I'm assuming the shell was manual since it is a super super base model..no power options at all, there's not even a/c lines coming from the firewall so no a/c from the factory even.

ok so i just made it back from the J/Y and i gotta good look at a factory 5spd dohc harness and also took a good look at my sohc auto harness in my car. this is what i found. (sorry bout the huge photos i hoped it would help you see things)

Photo of brake pedal sensors and relay -- 90 auto w/cruise(the relay is above and to the right of the sensors perched atop the brake pedal assembly - you can see the botom of the bracket that holds it in)

Photo of door subharness driver -- 93 manual w/cruise(top left blue and white connector only)

Photo of radio and climate control area -- 93 manual w/cruise

from these pictures i would have to say that your old harness is a 89 - 90 auto w/cruise and your new one is a 91 - 94 manual. your strange plug likely goes to the back of the clutch pedal and needs connected or bridged to start the car. the two connectors do go to the radio the smaller one goes to the optional tape deck. as far as where your doors hook up either your not looking hard enuff or your dohc car came with no radio (either is possible i really dont know i will look again at my other dohc harness later as its not here) there are a few more photos on my photobucket page http://photobucket.com/michaelschwartz and i will post more later. as far as cutting and soldering i would hook everything you know up first, the only thing i see you may need to do is check on that clutch plug(?) and as far as my doors i would simply run new speaker wires.

Awesome that helps a lot. Thank you. The speaker wire thing just clicked too...the idiot who ran speaker wire before me had a cable/wire like you're hook a lamp up to a socket in your house running to the doors...that must have been his "speaker wire" mod.

It does look like I'm missing some wires to the deck, but I'm sure it's radio/deck stuff that I can run later easily. I'm pretty sure my car was always manual now that I think about it..the clutch pedal looks oem placement/fitment and whoever did the wiring and such on that car I doubt they'd put that much effort into setting up a clutch pedal...so yeah I'm thinking I've got a manual harness..you never know though.

Those brake sensor plugs are what I'm somewhat curious about now..I'll have to look through mine next weekend when I go home to see how I'm going to tackle that issue.

the gray/black plug should go to the brake pedal the other should go to the clutch way down by the firewall. when you do a 5spd swap it ends up looking quite stock if done right. so much so that on my car there is only 2 places you can tell mine was an auto and one of those is the build plate.
