I have an 89 240sx with a 2.4L SOHC ( KA24E ) engine, auto. The motor has 225,000 miles and a broken piston. This motor is done but I like to keep the car. When it ran, I wanted to do some performance upgrades but couldn't find many parts for this engine. My question is, can I use a later model 2.4L DOHC ( KA24DE ) engine without alot of major modifications? Will the exhaust pipe fit without cutting and welding? Will the engine mounts fit? Will the throttle cables be the same? I'm sure the wiring harness and computer is different. Will the DOHC engine mount to the auto trans? If this project does work, what year engine would be the best. This car is going to be for my 16 year old son so it doesn't have to be turbo! Any help would be great.

this is a pretty easy and very common swap in fact i just finished it in my car. here is a few things you will need to change...... the P/S lines and reservoir need to be switched over to the other side. There are already existing holes to due so you just need the parts. Yes the wiring is different but there are a ton of links in this site that can show you how to do it yourself. Yes the transmission will bolt right on but be sure to take out the transmission with the old motor.......it will make your job easier. the down pipe and exhaust from the E motor will bolt on to the DE manifold or a header is best. the motor mounts work fine but you'll probably want the DE set of throttle cables. i used a DE motor out of a 91 SE. i had to do a little custom fab along the way but it wasnt too bad.......
