ok i have searched through this forum and others but i haven't found this problem anywhere.

i'm doing a sohc to dohc swap and i have all the necessary parts on the engine. its an s14 engine, but i am using s13 distributor, maf, exhaust manifold, ecu, and harness.

the problem is that the engine turns over, gets spark, and gets fuel but it doesn't run. it will hit on maybe two cylinders but never really starts. just makes a popping sound out of the exhaust and if i floor it while cranking it will pop out of the intake. my first thoughts were that the timing was off. well i reinstalled the distributor just to check and that made absolutely no difference. and i know its right. installed at tdc with the rotor pointing at cyl #1. my next thought was that maybe it had low compression or something. so i did a compression test. it was good. all vacuum lines have been checked and i even tried a different MAF. when i say i have tried everything i mean it.

so at this point i am stumped and i'm wondering if any of you guys have ever encountered this problem. i have talked to two other local guys that had this problem and neither one ever figured it out. they both just gave up and sold the cars. i don't have this option since this is work i am doing for someone else. i would like for it to run and run good.

I'm pretty sure you have to swap to an s13 intake manifold as well.

yeah..........anyway, some of the sensors are different too from the s13 to s14 ka24de so u either need to use an s14 ecu or s13 sensors

I did a 95 harness, ecu, transmission, engine into a 90 for a friend, got it all in for him and had the same problem, I got to thinking about it and added grounds to the cylinder head and transmission in numerous spots and it runs great now. He's been driving it for about 6 months now
